Job Summary

 

Oversee all aspects of the operations of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, monitor and adjust financial performance, ensure exceptional guest experiences, maximize revenue, and lead a dynamic team. The Director of Golf will facilitate all aspects of the business, including coordinating between White Lodging, sales, marketing, finance, and operations, while maintaining the high standards associated with the Purdue brand.

 

The characteristics and key attributes of a successful Director of Golf include goal orientation, initiative, vitality, time management plus honesty, straightforwardness, integrity, accountability, leadership, and dedication. He/She must demonstrate superior interpersonal relations skills, be a good communicator, be administratively competent and be able to communicate the Facility’s vision, especially as it relates to sustaining relevant, contemporary facilities with best in market quality. The ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders is essential.

 

The successful Director of Golf will:

• Be highly visible to members, guests, and staff and will listen to their input, praise, and criticisms. 
• Provide innovative, proactive solutions to identified issues which may be implemented within the budget constraints and consistent with the culture at the BBGC. 
• Bring industry “best in class” practices to all areas of the Golf operations and play a pivotal role in delivering the Facility’s operational, financial, and strategic goals. 

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, hospitality management, or related field of study from an accredited university. 
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in either golf course management, clubhouse management, or country club food and beverage management. Candidates should have vast experience in overall golf course management, including member relations, clubhouse operations, golf operations, and a strong background in food and beverage management.
• An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may also be considered.
• Must have supervisory, coaching and staff development experience. 
• Must have experience in total golf facility management and demonstrated ability to run a professional, efficient, high quality, service-oriented operation. 
• Certification's required- CMAA member, GCSSA or PGA/LPGA membership, preferably Class A, is encouraged
• Possess strong leadership, hospitality, and human relations skills. 
• Present a professional appearance and demeanor in all exchanges. 
• Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills. 
• Must have excellent organizational and time management skills, along with the ability to coordinate details and prioritize the work on a daily and weekly basis. 
• A high level of communication skills and positive human resource management talents that will enable the candidate to successfully work with Purdue Athletics, White Lodging, Golf Staff, and the members and guests of the facility. 
• Considerable knowledge of the business principles related to stocking and operating a pro shop, including the provisions of golf lessons. 

Required ct:

• Strong overall financial management and administrative skills, with particular strengths in the following areas: internal controls, financial controls, cash flow management, budgeting, data processing, and financial planning. 
• A reputation as a dynamic and highly visible leader with the ability to maintain a strong team through motivation and leading by example. 
• A distinct merchandising/marketing/promotion sense, with a clearly documentable record of accomplishments in achieving increased facility usage. 
• A self-starter with exceptional passion that is highly visible to the membership and staff alike, approachable, mature, and well-rounded as a manager and leader. A problem solver, who can effectively administer the affairs of the Facility and represent it to its various publics and constituencies. 
• Decisive, a good delegator, but one who follows up as necessary on what is delegated. 
• Personal interest in golf, and a deep understanding of golf and its history and traditions. 
• Must have a strong business aptitude and passion for the golf business. 
• Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. 
• Ideal candidates have flexible schedules with availability to work weekends and holidays as needed.
