The University of Southern Maine is seeking applicants for its next Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation. This is a full-time, year-round position based primarily on the Gorham campus. This position pays an annual salary of $115,000 plus a 10% contribution to the UMS retirement plan.
Reporting to the President of the University of Southern Maine, the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreationis responsible for providing strategic leadership, vision, and direction for the University’s NCAA Division IIIintercollegiate athletics program(including 23 intercollegiate sports programs and over 500 student-athlete participants), campus recreation including club sports, Esports, and intramural sports, and campus fitness and wellness programs. The Director must consistently employ strategies that demonstrate a strong understanding of student recruitment and retention to advance the USM and Huskies brand.
The Director is responsible for cultivating a positive and supportive environment in which student-athletes can balance their participation in athletics with their overall educational experience with the goal of developing in five key areas - academic excellence, athletic achievement, personal development, career development, and service to community.
The Director oversees a staff of 40+ regular employees (staff and faculty) and 100+ temporary employees, student employees, and volunteers; athletics facilities and playing surfaces; complex budgets (including fundraising/donations, revenue, etc.); sponsorship, marketing, and promotions; community relations and outreach; NCAA compliance; athletic communications; athletic health care administration; summer sports camps and clinics; and game and event management.
