Overview

The Director of Olympic Sport Strength and Conditioning Coach (Head Coach) will lead, manage and help set the strategic vision for a team of dedicated and invested professionals whose mission is to enhance the student athlete experience of each Olympic Sport athlete within the Utah State University Athletic Department. This position will be responsible for managing all aspects of personnel, facilities and budget matters pertaining to fifteen Olympic Sports.

Reporting directly to the Vice President and Director of Athletics, the Director will work closely with the men’s basketball coach to enhance the athletic performance of student-athletes. The Director of Olympic Sport Strength and Conditioning Coach will work with the men’s basketball program and other programs as assigned. This position will work closely with the Director of Football Strength and Conditioning Coach and will collaborate with fellow student-athlete services staff. The Director will work to empower the strength and conditioning staff by promoting teamwork and collaboration, open lines of communication, a coach-driven student-athlete centered approach, and cutting-edge methodologies aligned to best practices.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison for newly hired and departing staff
• Maintain files for current players Budget
• Oversee all aspects of budget
• Responsible for all expense report forms
• Liaison with the Business office Nutrition Program
• Oversee aspects of team nutrition plans
• Design, implement, supervise and monitor all facets of strength and conditioning programs Periodized Annual Plans
• Sport specific resistance training programs
• Sport specific conditioning programs
• Individual programs when necessitated
• Conduct fitness testing, computation of results, and evaluation
• Collaboration with sports medicine to ensure all preventative and rehabilitation concerns are addressed
• Team travel - Instruct proper lifting technique, assist in spotting when necessary, and conduct team warm ups and cool downs
• Ensure that the strength and conditioning department is in compliance with NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations.
• Participate in international, national, regional, and department seminars
• Anticipate potential risks of injury, have the ability to implement emergency medical procedures
• Liaise with other coaches, administration, team support personnel and department members as applicable
• Assist in recruitment, hiring, and supervising of highly qualified and competent strength and conditioning assistants and graduate assistants
• Keep updated on current strength and conditioning research
• Maintain all required S&C certifications
• Maintain current CPR/AED certifications
• Supervise and assist in general maintenance and cleaning of facility and its equipment
• Ensure facility is in proper order when opening, throughout the day, and closing
• Must adhere to and only implement industry accepted, scientifically supported methodologies when dealing with all varsity athletes. Methods must be tested and properly implemented into the overall training plan for each athlete.
• Oversee the University PE courses for student-athletes (PE2000 and PE2120) by submitting required status reports, reviewing class rosters and submitted final grades
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, ensuring compliance in all aspects of the program's operations. Violation of conference or NCAA regulation, as well as those policies of the university, could create negative publicity and jeopardize the University in conference or NCAA standings. Violations by employees will be documented and dealt with on an individual basis and can be cause for dismissal.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree in exercise science, sports administration or other sports/exercise related field
• Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist National Strength and Conditioning Association
• Strength & conditioning Coach Certified Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association
• CPR/AED certified
• Offer contingent upon successful completion of a background check
• Commitment to promote an atmosphere of compliance and adherence to institutional, conference and knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous Experience at Utah State
• Previous Experience as a Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
• Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
• Certification/Training/Courses taken from Poliquin Group, Strength Sensei LLC, Clean Health Performance, Ultimate Performance, ISSA or Precision Nutrition
