benefits and membership in the UC Retirement Plan. Under the general supervision of the
Associate Athletic Director, Health, Performance and Wellness, the Director of Olympic
Sports Athletic Performance will oversee in the planning, development, implementation,
evaluation and management of the athletic performance program for Olympic Sports
(excluding Men’s and Women’s Basketball). Incumbent will provide leadership, education,
instruction and program support in the areas of performance training: strength, power,
speed, agility, conditioning and recovery. Manage all aspects of day to day performance
training procedures and operations, including collaborating with sport coaches and athletic
trainers to design and implement year‐round training programs.
Job expectations include: comply with all Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA), University
of California, Conference and NCAA rules, regulations and policies; Attend all required Athletic
Department meetings / trainings throughout the year; Initiate and lead Athletic Performance (AP)
staff meetings throughout the year; Implement training methodology; Implement AP Department
programming tools to deliver to programs throughout the year; Communicate with teams/
student‐athletes using DIA platform ‐ Teamworks; Ensure communication between Athletic
Performance staff, ATCs, and sport coaches regarding all aspects of training and student athlete
health, performance and wellness.
All applicants should demonstrate the following abilities: Effective August 1st, 2015, NCAA
legislation mandates that only certified personnel can coach athletes unsupervised,
therefore, CSCS or CSCCA certification is required; Excellent group presentation skills to
diverse populations; Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with student‐athletes,
colleagues, professionals and administrators; Skill in negotiating ideas, information, and opinions
with others to formulate policies and programs and/or arrive jointly at decisions and solutions; Skill
in leading a team; Skill at managing shifting priorities and changing pace of workload; Ability to
establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with culturally diverse student‐athletes
and staff; Ability to critically review the professional literature on sport performance and sports
science; Knowledge of and ability to use various Microsoft computer programs, Outlook email and
calendaring, Teamworks athlete management platform and the Internet; Knowledge of and ability
to follow UCLA DIA, University of California, Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
Preferred qualifications include: Master’s degree in exercise science or related field; 2 years of
collegiate coaching experience.
