The Director of Spirit is responsible for the supervision, operations, and development of the UW Athletics Cheer and Dance, and Mascot programs. They will also lead the recruitment of all assistant coaches, consultants, and students on the teams. Provide instruction to the team by developing and clearly communicating program policies and prioritizing student’s safety as the top priority. Uphold all safety guidelines as set forth by the USA Cheer and the Conference in all practices, games, and performances. Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University of Washington, the NCAA, the Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the program, which includes managing the budget, organizing travel, ordering new equipment, and uniforms. Manage scheduling for all games, practices, community appearances, and camps or competitions. Hire and train assistant coaches, consultants or any additional staff involved in the program. Develop a recruiting plan prior to the annual tryouts and lead the marketing, operations, and selection process. Organize quarterly reviews with students, coaches and consultants involved in the program. Communicate schedule and coordinate coverage requests for practices involving stunting skills with UW Athletic Training. In addition, facilitate regular communication regarding active injuries and necessary modifications with medical staff. Must be present at all home UW Football games and available to travel to away games (including bowl games). For all non-football games/events, the Director of Spirit’s presence is expected; however, if the head coach cannot attend students must be placed under the direction of a safety certified and knowledgeable advisor or coach. Lead all fundraising efforts, including the Pup Squad, Clinics, Varsity Spirit Day, the annual cheer banquet and auction, Husky Giving Day and other fundraising opportunities. Research strategy and collaborate with UW marketing and fan engagement staff on in-game performances for football, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball and gymnastics. Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of college cheerleading and/or dance coach experience. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office. Highly motivated, creative, self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills. A strong leader and mentor, especially to college students. Must be able to work a flexible schedule; evenings and weekends are required. Ability to provide tumbling instruction. Technically sound in cheer and/or dance and able to provide clear instruction during practices.
