Job Description

Oversee all aspects of the Spirit Group (Pom, Cheer and Mascot) program in accordance with

NCAA

, the American Athletic Conference and The University of Tulsa rules and regulations. This position will report to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for External.

Essential Responsibilities:

Coordinate and oversee all aspects of the spirit groups, including but not limited to team practices, game appearances, travel and scheduling

Establish a productive, well-rounded environment which stresses the importance of academics in conjunction with athletics

Select and coach spirit squads – coed cheer, pom & mascot

Provide coaching and instruction of techniques, cheers and routines for both cheerleading and pom squad groups

Develop and coordinate outreach program for TU Athletics including teams, coaches and administrators

Administer and oversee adjunct coaches

Recruit potential spirit squad members, while coordinating with Admissions & Financial Aid to determine spirit squad scholarships

Coordinate game & special event performances, routines, cheers and dances

Work with marketing department and band director on game day material, music, events, and promotions

Maintain coordination, creativity and camaraderie with the band in order to enhance game day atmosphere & tradition

Organize fall and spring semester practice sessions

Order all spirit squad equipment, uniforms, supplies, etc.

Keep inventory of all uniforms and equipment, including maintaining the mascot suit

Organize summer camps for both pom and cheer squads

Organize and promote kid clinics throughout the year

Implement and maintain database and communication with Spirit Alumni; organize spirit alumni gatherings, homecoming reunions, game day opportunities

Maintain and update all information for the spirit squad website in conjunction with the athletic media relations office

Coordinate with academic support services on spirit squad academic progress

Organize, record, and manage all spirit squad and mascot appearance requests and community service

Organize any spirit squad travel to road contests

Update and maintain spirit squad guidelines and policies and make sure they are followed by all members

Organize spirit squad photos for the team poster, website and other promos

Plan and choreograph pre-game/halftime on-field activity in coordination with marketing office

Develop and sustain strong relations with local cheer, pom and dance teams

Special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience as a spirit, dance, cheerleading coaching required

Preferred Qualifications

Spirit, dance, cheerleading coaching experience at the collegiate level.

Physical Demands

Moderate physical demands.
