Serving as a member of the Department of Athletics administrative leadership team, the Director of Sports Medicine is responsible for the oversight of the sports medicine program including managing athletic training staff, coordinating with team physicians, and the administration of insurance. They will oversee complete medical care for all varsity student-athletes participating in 20 varsity sports.
You will:
Provide oversight and direction to the sports medicine department at the University of New Haven including scheduling staff coverage as needed to cover all sports.
Maintain primary sport oversight responsibilities as determined by the needs of the department and strengths/experience of athletic training staff.
Develop and implement policies and procedures for the new state-of-the-art Coury Athletic Training Center, including equipment procurement and maintenance, staffing, scheduling, and emergency procedures.
Assist in the design renovation and implementation of new policies and procedures for the Hazell Athletics Center.
Work collaboratively with coaches, administration, and other stakeholders to ensure the well-being of student-athletes.
Develop and maintain relationships with team physicians and other local medical professionals and organizations to provide additional resources to student-athletes when needed.
Provide education and training to coaches, athletic trainers, and other staff on topics related to sports medicine and student athlete welfare.
Maintain accurate records of injuries and treatments and ensure compliance with NCAA regulations along with a strong working knowledge of insurance practices and billing.
Collaborate and enhance working relationships with University of New Haven's Health Services Department and Counseling and Psychological Services to provide a comprehensive approach to student-athlete health and wellness.
Supervise and coordinate drug testing for student-athletes to meet NCAA standards, including notification to student athletes, and work with Drug Free Sport to ensure compliance.
Coordinate CPR training for administration, coaches, and staff.
Serve as a member of the Department of Athletics administrative leadership team
You need:
Master's degree in athletic training or sports medicine field.
Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC)
Connecticut State Athletic Trainer’s Licensure (or eligible and obtained prior to employment)
CPR/First Aid/AED certifications required.
A valid driver's license.
Minimum of five years of experience in athletic training and sports medicine is preferred.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage a team of athletic trainers.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders.
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations related to sports medicine.
