Grand Canyon University is currently seeking a qualified Director of Sports Medicine to lead its Athletic Sports Medicine Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the provision of appropriate medical care to all D1 Athletic Programs and the Cheer/Dance Programs. This position involves overseeing all operations, policies, rules, and procedures of the GCU Athletics Sports Medicine Clinic. The Director of Sports Medicine also collaborates with other sports medicine staff, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for all student-athletes, while supporting Grand Canyon University's Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement, and Mission. What you will do:

  • Will oversee and lead the GCU Athletics Sports Medicine Department and is responsible to ensure medical care for all D1 Athletic Programs and the Cheer/Dance Programs

  • Will provide direct support and coverage for assigned sport programs

  • Directs and oversees all GCU Athletics Sports Medicine Clinics operations, strategic planning, policies, rules, and procedures.

  • Manages, hires, and supervises sports medicine staff completing proper evaluation of personal and professional skills and goal setting for professional development and growth.

  • Prepares and maintains accurate and up to date medical records for student-athletes in Smartabase and monitors insurance

  • Continuous improvement to the institution’s concussion management program for new and returning student-athletes.

  • Assess and reports the progress of recovering athletes to physicians, physical therapist, Athletic Trainers, and coaches.

  • Serve as a liaison to doctors and other allied health professionals to deliver care to student-athletes

  • Collaborate with physicians, physical therapist, Performance Staff, Athletic Trainers, and coaches to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic participation

  • Perform general administrative tasks, such as keeping records, insurance reports or writing care reports.

  • Assists in planning, documentation and implementation of comprehensive athletic injury or illness prevention protocols
