Reporting to the Deputy Director of Athletics, the Director of Sports Nutrition-Olympic Sports will enhance the athletic performance of student-athletes by developing and managing sports nutrition programs and customized nutrition strategies; provide individual, group, and team nutrition counseling and education; and evaluate dietary supplements and sports foods for safety and quality with approval from sports medicine and compliance personnel. This individual will also oversee all operations of the SHAC Sports Nutrition Department including but not limited to budget, inventory, purchasing, stocking, and supervising student volunteers and dietetic interns.

• Provide information on the latest scientific research for practical sports nutrition recommendations.
• Counsel student athletes in conjunction with coaches, athletic training, and strength and conditioning for competition, recovery from exercise, illness or injury, weight management, hydration, immunity, disordered eating/eating disorders, travel and supplementation develop and counsel athletes regarding individual hydration recommendations.
• Develop education resources to support food selection and preparation. Providing personal meal and snack plans to promote short and long term goals to optimize athletic performance.
• Oversee operations of all fueling stations on campus around campus (SHAC and Benson Bunker). Manage inventory, stocking and ordering.
• Manage nutrition budget.
• Perform supervision of student volunteers and dietetic interns, providing daily and weekly responsibilities, scheduling, etc.
• Conduct body composition testing and analyze results with all sports.
• Administer hydration testing and analyze results.
• Analyze/interpret medical laboratory testing and determine best nutrition practice to correct high or low lab values.
• Organize meals for coaches, staff and athletes for various occasions including pregame, during games/ halftime and postgame fueling/refueling both onsite and during travel.
• Develop meal plans and snack options for athletes with specific goals.
• Organize team catered events in Fargo both on campus or off campus.
• Maintain professional competencies (minimum of 25 per year) required by Commission of Dietetic Registration to maintain in good standing by attending annual conferences and completing continuing education courses to stay up to date on current food, nutrition and health issues related to sports nutrition and the practical application to student athletes.

Advertised Salary:

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Registered Dietitian with licensure in the state of North Dakota upon hire
• 1 year experience specializing in nutrition
• Ability to utilize body composition devices and interpret results
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
• Basic computer skills with Excel and Word
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1 year experience specializing in collegiate sport nutrition
• Master’s degree in Health, Nutrition and Exercise Science (or related field)
• Supervisory experience
