Purpose of Position

The University of North Dakota Department of Athletics is currently recruiting for a Director of Strength & Conditioning. The purpose of this position is to develop, promote, and supervise all facets of the UND Athletic Department Strength & Conditioning program while abiding by the rules and regulations of the NCAA, University of North Dakota, and athletics conferences (MVFC, NCHC, The Summit League). Must have a commitment to compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations. Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletics.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop, design, promote, and supervise all facets of the UND Strength & Conditioning program.
• Evaluate and teach exercise techniques, including movement, resistance training, weightlifting, speed/sprint, agility, and energy systems.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures associated with safe operation of strength and conditioning facility, including keeping it cleaned/sanitized per industry standards.
• Abide by NSCA codes, policies, and procedures as well as scope of practice; standards of NCAA related to strength and conditioning programming; recognize and respond to symptoms of unsafe training practices and refer to health professionals; be present during hours to supervise strength and conditioning services.
• Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and strong organizational skills.
• Communicate to student athletes, coaches, medical staff, and others in a professional & cordial manner.
• Meet regularly with coaching staff of teams to discuss strength, conditioning, & fitness goals for their team and communicate appropriate team rules and expectations to student-athletes.
• Clearly communicate appropriate strength and conditioning programming, expectations, rules, and recommendations to all student-athletes.
• Demonstrate a positive commitment to the welfare of all student-athletes and ensure strength and conditioning services are provided equitably to all student-athletes.
• Provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes.
• Participate in UND Athletics events/projects/team functions (strategic plan, meetings, etc.) as directed.
• Oversight of the hiring of all strength and conditioning staff, including assistant coaches, graduate assistants, students, and interns.
• Work efficiently with UND Athletics Business Office to develop, budget, and carry out all business and/or Human Resources policies and procedures.
• Provide a professional working relationship with student-athletes, staff, administration, alumni, general public, NCAA, and conference officials.
• Effective work ethic concentrating on efficiency in tasks assigned and timely completion of requested materials/forms.
• Attend all required meetings including, but not limited to, compliance, life skills, administrative, and staff.
• Demonstrate support of other department coaches/staff and personal behavior as a member of the UND Athletic Department.
• Thorough knowledge & commitment to compliance of all NCAA, conference and UND rules and regulations.
• Social media supervision of direct staff.
• Complete all assigned athletic conference and/or NCAA documents effectively and efficiently.
• Be responsive to local, regional, and national media.
• Serve as a spokesperson for the UND Strength & Conditioning program.
• Develop community support for the program and participate in fundraising activities for the program and athletic department.
• Demonstrate professionalism in program presentation by modeling appropriate behavior.
• Address marketing and branding issues and, as requested, assist with the marketing of the sport program (i.e. use of social media), as appropriate.
• Manage all aspects of camps/clinics/special events, as applicable.

Required Competencies

• Must have effective professional working relationship with student-athletes, staff, administration, alumni, and general public.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize.
• Ability to teach and work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Must have a thorough knowledge of and commitment to NCAA compliance and follow all NCAA, conference and UND rules and regulations.
• Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes including a valid driver’s license.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology, Applied Exercise Science, or Related Field.
• Three (3) years of demonstrated strength & conditioning coaching experience.
• Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel software.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Other License(s) or Certification(s): First Aid/CPR/AED certified, CSCS and/or SCCC.
• Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree.
• Coaching experience at the NCAA Division I or Division II level.
• Recruiting experience at the collegiate and/or NCAA level.
• Supervisory experience.
