Position Summary
The intercollegiate athletics program is an integral part of the university striving to achieve the same standards of excellence in athletics that exist within academic programs. The program is concerned with the physical and mental welfare of the student and strives to ensure that every student-athlete has the opportunity to succeed academically and obtain a degree. Sport programs are a vital function of the University at large.
The position will play an integral role in the coordination and strategic development, implementation, and activation of comprehensive marketing and ticket sales plans, assistance with sponsorship implementation, social media, fan engagement, and organizational branding outreach.
Job Duties
Facilitates actions for the cross-functional engagement team including the creation and implementation
of a comprehensive marketing, ticket sales, advertising, social media, video and public relations plan,
while coordinating calendars and timelines. (50%)
Prepare and coordinate all aspects of game-day production and promotions for assigned sports,
including the selection of canned music; the production of public address and video board scripts and
timelines; implementation of in-game sponsorship elements, spirit squads, mascot and bands when
applicable (20%)
Responsible for managing external relationships and networking with community business partners to
include but not limited to creative/design, newspapers, television networks, print, outdoor advertising
companies, web content, and social media outlets. (10%)
Building and managing a comprehensive internship/student worker program designed to increase the
productivity and capabilities of functions within the marketing & Fan Engagement unit. (15%)
Serve as day-to-day liaison with band and spirit squads, other miscellaneous duties (5%)
This position oversees all the marketing, promotional, fan engagement efforts for the athletics department. This will also include assisting with revenue generation efforts through the sale of tickets, sponsorships and creating social media engagement. All of this requires significant creativity and collaboration.
This position will plan an integral role in the coordination and strategic development, implementation, and activation of comprehensive marketing and ticket sales plans, revenue generation, fan engagement and organizational branding outreach.
This position will work extensively with the local community, sponsors, donors and alumni in marketing, managing and creating the fan experience and through revenue generation efforts.
This position will work with the Senior Athletic Staff and the Athletic Business Office in developing the marketing budget and monitor expenditures throughout the fiscal year. This position will also assist in revenue generation through ticket sales and sponsorships.
The position will require the supervision of part-time/student workers and interns (up to 20 dependent upon sport season) involved in the game day activities, operations, and office work.
This position will recruit, train, supervise and evaluate student workers and interns dependent upon job function during events and office settings.
The position employee may perform duties in extreme weather due to outside sports seasons and offseason promotional activities and will require evening and weekend work.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in sport marketing, administration, management or a related field is required.
At least two years of experience in college athletic marketing or a related field.
No certifications/registration/licensing required.
Prefer progressive, results oriented marketing experience at the NCAA Division I or professional
sports. Strong research, organizational and presentation skills, familiarity with graphic design software
including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, high computer literacy, and strong knowledge of social
media. Must be a self-starter, able to work independently, and enjoys creating and implementing new
initiatives. Sincere commitment to working collaboratively with all constituent groups, including
Athletics staff, volunteers, and University personnel. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential
information and/or material with discretion. Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to maintain
effective relationships with staff, coaches, alumni/donors, campus and community leaders. Must be
able to represent the Athletic Department in a positive manner.
