Job Purpose

Under the direction of the Executive Associate Athletics Director, Sport Administration, the Director, Sport Administration will serve as the day-to-day administrator for several of the 36 varsity sports and will work closely with coaching and team staff to establish goals, plan, and manage budgets for equipment, travel, facility, training, or related resources, and ensure the highest level of performance and compliance within the department.

Job Purpose

Under the direction of the Executive Associate Athletics Director, Sport Administration, the Director, Sport Administration will serve as the day-to-day administrator for several of the 36 varsity sports and will work closely with coaching and team staff to establish goals, plan, and manage budgets for equipment, travel, facility, training, or related resources, and ensure the highest level of performance and compliance within the department.

In addition, this position will work on a team of high-energy sport administrators committed to improving the student-athlete experience by fostering high standards of integrity, athletic excellence, and academic success. This position is a member of the DAPER Leadership Team and will play a critical role in supporting our student-athletes and ensuring the continued successful operation of our sports program.

Responsibilities:

• Works directly with the Executive Associate Athletics Director – Sport Administration to lead and oversee various operational facets for all varsity sports.
• Aid in the recruitment, hiring, supervising, and evaluating process for select head coaches, including student-athlete surveys, exit interviews, and overall program assessment.
• Provide oversight and governance for tournaments and championships and assist coaches in preparation for championships.
• Utilize problem-solving abilities to efficiently resolve issues and support coaches and student-athletes to achieve program objectives.
• Contribute to developing departmental policies and procedures to ensure equitable application across all varsity programs. Including assessment, identifying areas for improvement, and creating alternative solutions.
• Collect and analyze athletic department data and prepare reports as needed for the Executive Associate Athletics Director, Sport Administration, Director of Athletics, the Conference, or the NCAA.
• Building and maintaining relationships with internal/external campus partners, creating effective communication plans, and ensuring adherence to applicable regulations and standards.
• Participate in budget development and management across all varsity sports, including creating, monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting budgets.
• Surveys and evaluation tools to identify development needs.
• Aid in the recruitment, hiring, supervising, and evaluating process for select head coaches, including student-athlete surveys, exit interviews, and overall program assessment.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience in intercollegiate athletic operations.
• Significant experience in working with coaches, assistant coaches, and staff members.
• Previous collegiate coaching/playing experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Comprehensive understanding of intercollegiate athletics administration, scholar-athlete development, NCAA compliance within a Division I environment. Ability to implement and enforce NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.
• A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competence and respect for a wide range of identities and experiences; is flexible and able to develop productive working relationships with staff and coaches.
• Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
• Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.
• Humble team member, open to honest feedback, collaboration, and a selfless approach to sport administration.
• Demonstrated creativity, problem solving, critical analysis, initiative, judgment and, decision-making skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Working conditions:

• Frequent travel and work on evenings and weekends. Estimated travel: 30%.
• This position is based on the Stanford main campus.

This position, along with all DAPER coaches and staff, is responsible for the integrity of Stanford’s intercollegiate athletics program, recreation and wellness department, and for the reputation of Stanford University. This position is responsible for ensuring that your involvement with DAPER activities maintains the integrity of the University’s reputation and does not negatively impact the relationship between the University and its faculty, staff, students, and alumni. Additionally, this position must comply with University policies and procedures, NCAA, and conference rules and regulations.

The expected pay range for this position is $95,000 to $110,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
