Job Summary

The director will cultivate and lead a high-performance environment that supports the development, health and success of all UNG student-athletes through collaboration with sport coaches, sports medicine and sports performance staff. Develop and implement evidence-informed, sport specific strength and conditioning programs that enhance student athlete performance while establishing a consistent culture of preparation, discipline, accountability and continuous improvement. Serve as a leader and primary teacher of the sports performance staff, including the development and supervision of graduate assistant coaches. Incumbent is frequently away from assigned work desk/phone due to official UNG work responsibilities or travel and requires real-time communication with others.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and holds the responsibility of serving as a mandatory reporter for all Clery Act crimes.

Responsibilities
- Leads, develops and administers the overall sports performance program for the UNG Athletic Department using a holistic, systematic and sport specific approach. Develops training programs based on the demands and goals of individual sports and student-athletes.
- Provides hands-on leadership and instruction in the athletic performance facility, maintaining a consistent standard for training preparation, technique, effort, atmosphere, discipline, safety and accountability across all teams. Maintains regular presence in training sessions and oversight of all student-athletes, including teams primarily assigned to graduate assistant coaches.
- Leads, supervises, mentors and develops graduate assistant coaches and other sports performance staff. Establishes clear expectations and standards; provides instruction, feedback and professional development; and maintains appropriate oversight of training sessions and programming.
- Collaborates with head coaches to understand the unique demands, goals, culture and competitive needs of each sport. Meets regularly with coaches and when appropriate, attends practices or other team activities to better understand sport-specific needs and integrate sports performance into the overall development of the team.
- Establishes and maintains systems for testing, assessment, benchmarking and tracking student-athlete development. Uses performance data and measurable results to evaluate program effectiveness, communicate progress and make appropriate adjustments to training programs.
- Works seamlessly with sports medicine department and other athletics staff to support the comprehensive development, health, safety and well-being of all student-athletes.
Develops, supervises and enforces appropriate rules, standards and procedures governing the performance facility, creating an organized, professional, disciplined and high-energy training environment. - Manages the master schedule for the sports performance facility and coordinates training activities and resources to maximize the effective us of staff, space, equipment and other departmental resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant AD, Sports Medicine & Performance or Executive Leadership team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of: human physiology, anatomy, exercise science, strength and conditioning principles, and related sports performance concepts.
- Knowledge of use and application, maintenance and safety of strength and conditioning equipment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and demonstrated attention to detail.
- High ethical standards and ability to relate to work with a diverse faculty, staff, students and other constituents.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, energy, adaptability and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Ability to manage multiple teams, programs, staff and competing priorities in fast paced collegiate athletics environment.
- Ability to organize and manage individuals and programs while effectively planning projects, schedules and training activities.
- Must have the ability to lift 40 pounds overhead.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement sport-specific strength and conditioning programs based on the physical demands and competitive goals of individual sports.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain high standards of preparation, discipline, accountability, effort, safety and professionalism in training environment.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong, productive relationships with student-athletes, head coaches, sports medicine personnel and other athletics staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively and teach student-athletes and staff proper training techniques, concepts and safety standards.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with head coaches while maintaining appropriate expertise and leadership in the area of strength and conditioning.
- Ability to use assessment, testing, benchmarking and performance data to evaluate student-athlete development and inform training decisions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required. (Preferably in exercise science or closely related field), Master's preferred
- Two years of demonstrated experience working in a collegiate or professional sports strength and conditioning environment, preferably at a level comparable to the competitive and operational demands of UNG Athletics.
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa), is required at the time of hire. Certified in CPR and First Aid.
