The Director / Strength & Conditioning, Olympic Sports assists all strength and conditioning personnel to implement the strategic plan of strength and conditioning to enhance the student athlete experience of each Olympic Sport athlete within Virginia Tech's Athletic Department. Responsibilities include, but not limited to assist in the development of strength, speed, flexibility and agility programs for assigned team(s); instruct student athletes on proper and safe strength and conditioning techniques and use of equipment; design programs for injury prevention; coordinate the reconditioning of injured athletes with athletic trainers; assist in day to day operations of the training facility; communicate effectively with student athletes, staff and management; ensure compliance with University, Conference and NCAA rules and regulations; ; manage equipment purchasing; coordinate maintenance with our Facilities personnel; and perform other related functions and duties as assigned.
The Director reports directly to the Asst. AD / Strength & Conditioning, Olympic Sports and will work closely with sport coaches, athletic trainers, sports nutritionists, sports psychologists, and athletic administrators to help fulfill the vision and goals of the Virginia Tech Athletic Department. The Director will work to empower the strength and conditioning staff by promoting teamwork and collaboration, open lines of communication, a coach driven student athlete centered approach and cutting edge methodologies aligned to best practice.
Required Qualifications
Degree in physical education and health, exercise science, sports administration or other sports/exercise related field or a master's degree.
Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist National Strength and Conditioning Association, or
Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association.
CPR/AED
