Located five miles from downtown Boston, Tufts University is a Division III member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the highly-competitive New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Tufts students participate in 30 varsity sports, 32 club sports and a number of intramural sports. Tufts Athletics has won eleven NCAA team championships since 2010 and has finished in the top 10 of the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup in each of the last eight years, including winning the Director's Cup in 2022 as the top Division III Athletic Department in the nation. What You'll Do

The Director of Track & Field/Cross Country will oversee and manage all facets of the men’s and women’s cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field programs, providing leadership, direction and supervision of the full and part-time coaching staff and the high-level decision-making as it impacts the student-athletes across all six sports and three seasons of competition. The Director will also serve as a primary/head coach in their area(s)/event(s) of expertise.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide leadership by directing the operations and decision-making for the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field programs; Supervise full and part-time events coaches across all three seasons, ensuring adherence to all association, conference and university policies and protocol.
  • Oversee and manage the program’s operational budget, fundraising account, meet/practice scheduling, team travel, officials, meet management, indoor/outdoor track facilities and equipment.
  • Identify, evaluate and successfully recruit highly-selective student-athletes within the framework, guidelines and policies of the University, NESCAC and NCAA; Make roster-management decisions, as they relate to University Admissions and overall program success.
  • Educate, coach and provide guidance for highly-competitive student-athletes in selected events/areas of expertise.
  • Engage with alumni and donors for team and program fundraising initiatives and external relations as needed.
