Job Description
The Esports Head Coach is responsible for leading the Esports program at
SMSU
. Duties include recruiting, leading practices, and managing gamedays for the Esports students at
SMSU
. The Esports Head Coach will be expected to link Esports students to those University academic and support resources vital to supporting student success. This position will recruit and lead volunteer and/or student assistant coaches and work to resolve any issues that arise within the program. This position will also engage with Information Technology Services
ITS
) staff for purposes of maintaining and updating all technology that is utilized by the Esports program, which includes but not limited to, hardware and software required for competition and streaming.
Required Qualifications
Masters in Computer Science or related field plus 3 years of professional experience in the Esports field (preferably as an Esports Director or Head Coach for a College/University) OR a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field plus 4 years of professional experience in the Esports field (preferably as an Esports Director or Head Coach for a College/University) OR an equivalent combination of post-secondary training, education and/or advance professional experience.
Advanced knowledge of the competitive Esports environment including direct experience with several popular titles that can support a progressive program that recruits and retains students while generating revenue.
Ability to adapt to new competitive esports titles and broadcasting systems as the needs of the program grow and change in order to keep up with the everchanging esports landscape.
Demonstrated technical skills needed in order to oversee and maintain Esports gaming machines, broadcasting equipment and keep up with ever changing integrative technologies.
Ability to adapt to changing conditions and to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, creative problem solving and service provider skills with strong communications and presentation skills.
Ability to work as part of, and lead a team that collaborates effectively with teammates .
Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, holistic health.
Ability to interact and collaborate with multiple and diverse groups of people and a commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as an Esports Director or coach .
Experience as a teacher in a post-secondary environment .
A record of success as a participant in Esports activities .
