Position Summary The Executive Assistant to the Director of Athletics reports directly to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and will provide executive level support and management for the coordination of the Athletic Director’s Office. The Executive Assistant to the Director of Athletics serves on the Athletic Director’s Senior Leadership Team and acts as a liaison between Athletic Director and student-athletes, staff members, and various external stakeholders. As the Executive Assistant to the Director of Athletics, this position will interact with all levels of the campus, other universities throughout the country, executives and administrators of companies and organizations outside the university, state and local political leadership, non-profits, professional athletes, alumni, donors, prospective students, job seekers, and members of the community. The position works in cooperation with the Office of the President, the Office of the Vice President of Business Affairs, the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Office of the Vice President of University Relations and Development, Associated Students, and other officials and staff of the university and third-party partners. This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on December 31, 2024, with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego

Department Summary The Department of Athletics, utilizing the services of over 150 employees, is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University.  Currently, there are 19 sport programs, approximately 550 student-athletes, and 17 offices in the department.  The offices include the following:  The Aztec Club/Development, Administration, Athletic Medicine, Business Office, Compliance, External Corporate Sales, Equipment, Event Management/Facilities and Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Media Relations, Strength and Conditioning, Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, Ticket Office, and Video. Education and Experience Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite. These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/ vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Licenses/Certifications Required Valid California driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire

Compensation and Benefits Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,416 per month.  Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.  San Diego State University offers a rich benefits package that constitutes a major portion of total compensation.
