Position Purpose

The Executive Associate Athletics Director for Peak Performance possesses a broad understanding of integrated support team (

IST

) expertise (i.e., strength and conditioning, sports medicine, nutrition, mental performance, etc.), in order to effectively provide leadership and support in a collaborative high-performance academic and sport environment. The role requires frequent interaction with student-athletes, sport coaches,

IST

staff, campus and industry colleagues, and senior administration, in addition to the ability to develop and provide educational resources, and to mentor and supervise multiple staff. This position will lead the Dartmouth Peak Performance (DP2) team in Athletics by developing and implementing innovative and data-driven performance systems designed to help student-athletes maximize their potential as students, athletes, and people during their Dartmouth careers. They will participate as a member of the Director of Athletics and Recreation’s leadership team to inform policies and practices critical to creating and maintaining a championship culture within the athletics department.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp

Masters or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Six years of progressive experience in a sport performance environment with high-level sport or tactical athlete populations (collegiate, professional, and/or olympic).

Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Sports Science, Sports Performance, or related field.

Experience in data analysis, reporting and statistical software (e.g., Excel,

SPSS

, R, Tableau,

SQL

,

MATLAB

, etc.)

Proficiency with sport science technology (e.g.,

GPS

monitoring, heart rate, force plates,

EMG

/signal processing, etc.).

Experience with database management functions and various software tools.

Proven leadership and management skills.

Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills to motivate and work effectively with diverse groups and individuals internal and external to the College.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in sensitive situations and work effectively in a fast-paced and complex work environment.

Highly developed ability to make justifiable decisions.

Strong planning and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral Degree.

Previous experience leading a high-performance team.

| Description |
Dartmouth Peak Performance (DP2) System Leadership

• Directs the creation of structures and operational systems that maximize the impact of technical expertise, environment, and service delivery on Dartmouth student-athletes’ ability to optimize performance through combination of best practices and innovation.
• Creates collective vision and philosophy for Dartmouth Peak Performance and develops and executes strategic plans for DP2, revising as appropriate to incorporate emerging information and technology and to meet the changing needs and requirements of student-athletes and head coaches.
• Develops systems and processes that facilitate continued communication and dissemination of knowledge across all performance departments to further student-athlete health and performance.
• Advises and develops organizational best practices to further advance and integrate sport science protocols into team processes, training programming, and periodization strategies.
• Develops assessment tools to provide analysis of student-athlete health and performance.
• Identifies key performance indicators (KPIs), in collaboration with sport coaches and other IST performance disciplines and oversees the processing and communication of data (i.e., collection, upload/entry, filtering, modeling, interpretation, and reporting).
• Develops benchmarks (e.g., normative data) of attributes needed for athletic health and performance.
• Regularly completes performance audits to determine progress, gaps, needs, and areas for improvement against KPIs.
• Leads collaborations to address fundamental performance-based questions and interdisciplinary initiatives around common ‘Performance Solutions’ that will give clarity of mission and promote a multi-disciplinary approach.
• Leads department research initiatives to identify critical qualities and metrics related to enhancing student-athlete performance, health and safety, and talent identification and partners with Dartmouth faculty, staff, and industry colleagues to develop research programs designed to enhance student-athlete development and performance where appropriate.
• Collaborates with sport coaches and team staff to support, develop, and inform talent identification processes.
• Oversees the delivery and implementation of sport science services across all integrated support team (IST) disciplines and is capable of influencing student-athlete performance planning, resources, and organizational processes through data collection, coordination, and analysis.
• Develops a network of experts on all aspects of physical and mental athletic development and initiates, develops and implements resources and programs to meet the health and performance needs of student-athletes in collaboration with practitioners, coaches, and colleagues on- and off-campus.
• Develops and improves data collection protocols for current and new assessments. Manages and administers safe, legal, and ethical practices for the dissemination of athlete, team, and related institutional performance data.
• Contracts outside consultants as necessary to supplement campus services.

Peak Performance Team Management

• Leads, develops, and integrates sport performance practitioners to create a true “high performance” environment and team comprised of athletic department staff members responsible for academic support, leadership development, strength and conditioning, and career services, and campus staff responsible for athletic training, medical, nutrition, sport psychology, and integrative health services, with direct supervision over strength and conditioning, athletic training, medical, nutrition, and sport psychology and the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Peak Performance.
• Develops and utilizes a competency framework to scale practitioners against ‘best practice’, drive a high standard of fundamental services, evaluate the effectiveness of the performance-impact of the sport performance practitioners, and identify, direct, and support areas for individual development.
