Position Summary Information
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director’s Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department’s guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.
A SIGN-ON BONUS OF $4,081 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT OF THIS POSITION PAID IN 2 INSTALLMENTS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE:$2,040.50 WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE DATE & $2,040.50 12 MONTHS AFTER HIRE DATE. Position has responsibility to assist in daily building operations and perform maintenance activities necessary in the Facility. Building operations include but are not limited to facility preparations and set-up for practices, special events and intercollegiate contests, secondary contact for maintenance issues.Responsible for working with Facility Maintenance Supervisor and all Facility Managers to ensure efficient and comprehensive communication with units within the Athletic Department (e.g., Coaches, Event Management, Marketing and Athletic Communications, IT, Business Office, ASPSA), other University departments (e.g., Student Union, University Events, and Department of Public Safety, Transportation and Parking). Provide accurate and detailed information to assist in facilitating a smooth and professional operation and keeping track of maintenance projects and work order records. Individuals must be knowledgeable of policies and procedures related to risk management and security and a willingness to work within a team model. Work within the maintenance protocols established by management to negate or mitigate any hazard that facility users may encounter due to unusual security and emergency situations.
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
A valid NC Driver’s License is required. Knowledge and familiarity with small/large tools. Ability to do electrical related tasks such as: change ballasts and install conduit. Ability to perform plumbing tasks such as: replace flush valves, replace water fountains, and repair clogged drains. Ability to perform carpentry tasks such as: building shelves. Ability to perform painting tasks such as: painting trim, doors, and cabinets. Maintain roof systems and diagnose potential or occurring leaks.
Effective Communication skills, both oral and written. Demonstrated organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated skills and knowledge necessary to facilitate the business processes and functions within Athletic Facilities. Familiarity and/or working knowledge of the University, ACC and NCAA guidelines. Ability to foster cooperative, working relationships. Ability to trouble shoot issues and exercise effective decision-making skills.Normal work hours are M-F 7:30 AM-3:30 PM. Night and weekend work to support events is also required.
Valid NC Driver’s License
Must be able to lift/move objects 25 lbs or more. May be required to navigate stairs. Must be able to manage a fast-paced, high volume work environment. Attention to detail essential. Ability to work nights, evenings and weekends as required. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions.

**ELIGIBILITY FOR SIGN-ON BONUS The selected candidate for this position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus. Qualified applicants must apply and be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements: To be eligible for a Sign-on bonus, an individual must not have worked in a probationary, permanent, or time-limited appointment in the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government, including without limitation the judicial system, state executive branch agencies, and the university system. A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time (more than 20 hours a week) employee are eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours per week). This SHRA Sign-on Bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire. All recipients must sign the Pay Back Agreement form.
