Job Description

The Athletics Ministry Assistant for LU Shepherd (Part-Time, 20 hours/week) supports the Director of LU Shepherd to Athletics in advancing the holistic spiritual development of Liberty University student-athletes. Working under the guidance of the Director, this role contributes to ministry programming, relationship-building, and student engagement in alignment with the mission of the Office of Spiritual Development (OSD). The Assistant also helps coordinate aspects of graduate student scholar (GS) recruitment and development, who serve as primary disciplers within the athletic community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Director of LU Shepherd to Athletics with ministry programming and spiritual formation opportunities for female Athletic Shepherds and student-athletes. This role may require appropriate presence in female locker room areas before or after practices, competitions, or team activities. The position may also include occasional travel with women’s athletic teams to provide spiritual support, mentoring, and pastoral care during away competitions or team events.

  • Assist in providing mentorship and encouragement to Athletic Shepherds under the direction of the Director.

  • Help build and maintain positive relationships within the Liberty University Athletic Department, including with coaches, staff, and students.

  • Participate in occasional hospital visitations or outreach to support student-athletes.

  • Support communication and coordination related to female athletic student concerns involving university offices (e.g., Chancellor’s Office, International Student Office).

  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.

  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.
