Job Description
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Financial Aid Athletics Specialist [R0143662].
ROLE of the POSITION
The Financial Aid Athletics Specialist reports to the Assistant Director for Financial Aid Processing. The Senior Associate Athletic Director of Compliance provides secondary supervision. This position ensures financial aid awards are in compliance with NCAA, Mountain West Conference, State of Nevada and institutional aid programs. This position serves as the athletic department liaison to the financial aid office. The Financial Aid Athletics Specialist assists in developing, and implements, monitors and assesses a strategic plan for all aspects of the department's student-athlete financial aid processes, including aid allocation, equivalency computation, the monitoring of all institutional and outside aid, and assists with budget management. The Financial Aid Athletics Specialist performs the financial award process, needs analysis, ensures the completion of financial aid verification, and reporting disbursed aid to appropriate parties. The Financial Aid Athletics Specialist will be responsible for obtaining proper guidance or approval from Athletics Compliance, prior to participating in select activities, as defined by NCAA bylaws or institutional policies.
Compliance will be achieved by utilizing:
Running appropriate queries daily, weekly, or monthly
Creating and maintaining business process guides
Effective planning and understanding the business cycle
Actively engaged with student-athletes and coaching staff to provide personalized service during the recruitment process
This position exists to prioritize student-athlete financial aid processing and financial aid compliance.If time permits, the incumbent may be asked to assist within other areas of the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. Other daily routines of this position include:
Answer and return phone calls
Prompt email responses
Public records requests
Verify student-athletes are still eligible for various financial aid programs
Account reconciliation and budget maintenance overview: The Financial Aid Athletics Specialist is responsible for assisting with the processing and monitoring of the athletics scholarship budget.
Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Monthly reconciliation of PeopleSoft to Workday.
Monthly budget tracking to actual expenditures.
Assisting with preparing the annual athletic department scholarship budget.
Daily and monthly monitoring of the athletic department scholarship budget.
Monitor athletic Foundation endowment accounts to ensure necessary funds are available to process payments.
Approve and administer book payments for student-athlete accounts.
Responsible for assisting with completing all annual reports related to financial aid (NSHE, NCAA, Equity Athletic -Disclosure Act (EADA), and other reports that may be required).
Assisting in the administration of the National Letter of Intent and Summer School scholarship distributions
Other duties as assigned related to the financial operation of the athletic scholarship budget.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 2+ years of R** elated Professional Experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date. Employee must not be in overpayment or default status for any Federal Student Aid program or award.**
Related experience particularly as it relates to student (student-athlete preferred) engagement, recruitment/financial aid, or budgeting and reconciliation and customer service.
Knowledge
Knowledge of, or ability and willingness to learn federal, state and institutional regulations pertaining to student aid programs.
Ability to develop a good working knowledge of University and State Business policies, procedures and regulations, including but not limited to State Administrative manual, Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents Code and Nevada Administrative Code (NAC).
Ability to develop a good working knowledge of UNLV and a good working knowledge of UNLV compliance policies and procedures.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and experience in working with athletic aid or scholarships and federal aid, specifically in a NCAA Division I program. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
