Summary

The Office of Financial Aid (OFA) at the University of Michigan is looking for a financial aid professional to assist in the administration of existing scholarship and financial aid programs. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Scholarships, the Financial Aid Coordinator for Scholarships and Athletic Aid will review eligibility for both need-based and merit-based scholarship funding offered through OFA, counsel and process athletic financial aid in accordance with the Department of Education and NCAA guidelines, and assist in developing new policies and procedures.

Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Office of Enrollment (OEM) division provides campus-wide leadership in executing the strategic recruitment, admission, enrollment, new student programs, records management and student financial support functions for the university.

• Administer and reconcile various endowed and expendable scholarship programs. Manage specific private scholarship programs. Counsel scholarship recipients. Compile data and reports to outside donors and organizations. Serve as a resource for OFA staff regarding scholarship related issues.

• Administer and monitor financial aid for student-athletes according to federal, institutional, and NCAA regulations. Work in conjunction with the Athletic Department. Counsel and advise student athletes. Serve as a resource for university departmental personnel on NCAA regulations pertaining to permissible aid for student-athletes. Ensure accurate financial aid reporting in NCAA software.

• Coordinate programs between OFA and donors, outside agencies, scholarship committees, community foundations, and other university units. Advise students, parents, and outside offices and agencies and other University personnel on scholarship programs and financial aid issues. Work with the Development Office in developing and fine-tuning scholarship programs.

• Maintain working knowledge of legislation and regulations governing financial aid programs, need analysis methodology, NCAA regulations, NCAA software, requirements of scholarship programs, federal and state laws, and office policies and procedures.

• Assist in the evaluation of scholarship programs. Work with editorial staff to develop new scholarship publications and forms.

• Provide professional representation of the OFA and the University of Michigan at Athletic compliance conferences, University functions, presentations, professional meetings, scholarship organizations, and other groups seeking general financial aid information.
  

Required Qualifications*

• Bachelor's degree is required.
• Two years of experience in financial aid or a closely related field.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, and attention to detail.
• Experience working with data systems, and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to create and maintain relationships with internal/external partners.
• Ability to make independent decisions, appropriately utilize professional judgment and to interpret federal/state/institutional regulations/policies/procedures is a must.

Desired Qualifications*

• Familiarity and working knowledge of NCAA regulations regarding financial aid.
  

Additional Information

The Office of Enrollment Management requires a hybrid work arrangement of minimally three days on-site and two remote days. Thursdays are required as an on-site work day for all. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and subject to change dependent on the business needs throughout the course of employment.
