Missouri Valley College’s football program is seeking a defensive coordinator to work with a talented young staff under the direction of Coach LaQuentin Black.
Core coaching and strategy duties for the DC are scheme development, creating and implementing game plans, playbooks, and practice schedules; Opponent analysis, breaking down film, scouting and reviewing opponents, and adjusting strategies in-game; Player development, coaching position grounds (DL, LB, DBs) focusing on fundamentals, skill development and performance; and staff management, supervising assistant coaches and coordinating their efforts.
Other duties include recruiting, assisting the head coach in identifying, recruiting, and admitting quality student-athletes; academic monitoring, tracking student-athletes’ academic progress, GPA, and ensuring study hall participation; Team culture, building trust, fostering teamwork, mentoring athletes, and exemplifying institutional values; and fundraising and camps, assisting with events, clinics and community engagement.
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred. Proven coaching experience and playing experience required, often at the college level; Excellent skills in leadership, communication, analytical thinking, video analysis (HUDL), and organization a necessity. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends. Also includes significant travel.
Successful candidate will build relationships not only with players and coaches, but team members across the institution while managing eligibility, academics, and HR compliance. Must also have demonstrated ability managing budgets for recruiting, travel and equipment, and ensuring compliance with institutional and NAIA policy, rules, and regulations.
