Job Summary
The Football Coach Intern reports to the Head Coach and may have a second report relative to an assigned secondary duty. The primary tasks are to assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the program including plan practices and game strategies; game day responsibilities; and recruiting qualified student-athletes in concert with the academic mission of the University. In addition, a secondary responsibility will be assigned that could include game management, intramural and club sports, facilities management, or strength & conditioning. The position appointment is for one year, renewable up to a total of three years. This position is defined as a non-exempt position under
FLSA
regulations.
Specific Responsibilities
· Assist the Head Coach in identifying and recruiting academically qualified student-athletes
· Assist the Head Coach in both the off-campus and on-campus recruiting efforts
· Assist the Head Coach in developing and conducting organized practices
· Assist the Head Coach with game day responsibilities
· Assist the Head Coach with fundraising opportunities
· Assist the Head Coach in counseling student-athletes in a positive manner and serving as a positive role model to all SU students on a daily basis
· Adhere to all
NCAA
, conference and University rules and regulations
· Develop positive rapport with athletics staff, as well as the entire SU community
· Represent the university to various constituents in a professional manner
Education
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Experience
Playing or coaching experience on a collegiate level preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Deep understanding of and passion for the game of Football; Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to build strong collaborative relationships. Requires ability to multi-task and attend to detail. Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work with current students and parents, prospective students and parents, and staff and faculty in a professional manner. Ability to use technology and equipment specific to the sport.
Additional Requirements:
This position requires a valid driver’s license, the ability to drive and qualify under the university’s insurance carrier when driving a university and/or leased vehicle.

and First Aid certification is preferred. This role is identified as one that includes significant interaction with students and/or campus activities, and/or has oversight for disciplinary procedures. Therefore, you are considered a Campus Security Authority (
CSA
) and required to report any Clery Act crime disclosed to you and remain compliant with annual

training requirements.
Physical Demand
Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Position requires the ability to talk and to hear instruction ability to frequently convey detailed or important instructions and ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly. Position requires lifting, pulling, pushing: Exert up to 50 pounds for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires travel. Work is indoors and outdoors.
