III. Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of an intercollegiate athletic program, including competitive excellence, student-athlete development, recruiting, budget and staff management, and the integration of Christian faith and learning within the team environment.

• Provide overall leadership for the athletic program, setting a Christ-centered culture of competitive excellence, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
• Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices and conditioning sessions that develop sport-specific skills and team strategies.
• Direct all aspects of game and match preparation, including scouting opponents and making in-game adjustments.
• Recruit and retain student-athletes who demonstrate high moral character, academic potential, and athletic ability.
• Maintain the prescribed team roster size and manage athletic scholarship awards within established budget guidelines.
• Collaborate with Admissions to coordinate campus visits, communication, and follow up with prospective student-athletes.
• Monitor academic progress, class attendance, and eligibility of student-athletes in partnership with faculty, advisors, and campus support services.
• Promote the spiritual growth of student-athletes through intentional mentoring, team devotions, prayer, and service opportunities.
• Model Christ-like character and foster an environment of respect, accountability, humility, and inclusion.
• Hire, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches, graduate assistants, and student workers, delegating responsibilities appropriately.
• Develop and manage the program’s operating budget, monitor expenses, and follow University purchasing and travel procedures.
• Coordinate team travel logistics, competition itineraries, and use of athletic facilities in collaboration with Athletics and Physical Plant staff.
• Assist with department and program fundraising initiatives, camps, clinics, and community engagement activities.
• Ensure full compliance with NCAA Division II, conference, and University rules, promptly reporting potential violations.
• Participate in department meetings, campus events, and professional development opportunities as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

• Strong knowledge of sport-specific techniques, strategies, and current best practices in coaching and training.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop student-athletes spiritually, academically, and athletically.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to speak to groups and represent the program publicly.
• Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and community partners.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to analyze situations, exercise sound judgment, and make timely decisions under pressure.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn University and athletics-specific software systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and to lead and supervise staff effectively.
• Commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all student-athletes and staff.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
• Professionalism, integrity, and the ability to serve as a positive role model on and off campus.

VI. Education and Experience

• Bachelors required, master’s degree preferred.
• Competing and/or significant coaching experience in sport is required; recruiting, budget management, and supervisory experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and eligibility to drive on university business are required.

VII. Working Conditions / Physical Demands

• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and overnight travel for practices, competitions, recruiting, and fundraising activities. 
• Ability to be physically active for extended periods and work in both indoor and outdoor athletic environments, occasionally in variable weather conditions.
