Job Summary

The Gift Accountant III is central to the effectiveness of the financial accounting and reporting for the Georgia Southern University Philanthropic and Athletic Foundations and may perform functions related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting, review, and analysis of database and general ledger activity, report generation and analysis, research and problem resolution, reconciliation processes and operational needs.

Responsibilities

• Processes gifts/payments and monitors processing of manually entered and imported data between systems and databases to ensure accuracy and consistency of gift processing, reporting, and receipting
• Creates queries and exports within Raisers Edge and Financial Edge databases to provide support to staff; reconciles and analyzes data monthly, and provides reports/information during the annual audit
• Works effectively with University Advancement staff, GS personnel, and donors as necessary; actively trains and cross-trains with accounting personnel on best practices to ensure continuity of operations; provides excellent customer service while ensuring information is accurate and secure
• Reconciles, documents, and reports on monthly pledge receivables and contribution revenue for the Georgia Southern and Athletic Foundations, assists with resolving bank statement reconciling items
• Prepares monthly pledge reminders for the Georgia Southern Foundation
• Manages monthly payroll deduction processing
• Maintains and creates appeals and packages in Raisers Edge and Financial Edge databases to track annual fundraising efforts
• Researches and resolves gift/payment-related issues and makes refunds, gift/pledge adjustments, pledge write-offs, and journal entries as required

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting

Required Experience

• Four (4) or more years of experience in accounting

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Raiser's Edge and/ or Financial Edge experience
• Knowledge of IRS regulations regarding charitable contributions

Preferred Experience

• Three (3) or more years of accounting experience in higher education or non-profit organization

Proposed Salary

$50,000 - $63,700

• Proven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for specific position

• Ability to identify problems and changing requirements regarding management needs, auditing, fiscal procedures, account structures or reports, and accounting systems
• Ability to monitor and collect data and to assess the accuracy and integrity of data
• Ability to ensure compliance with applicable standards, rules, regulations, and systems of internal control
• Ability to analyze information and develop new business processes

KNOWLEDGE

• Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
• In-depth knowledge of accounting theories and principles and systems design
• Knowledge to consistently serve as a technical resource
• Conversant with CASE Management Reporting Standards, IRS substantiation regulations and FASB standards

SKILLS

• Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills
