Golf Professional
Leads and provides individual and group golf lessons and clinics for guests of Forest Akers Golf Courses at Michigan State University; assists guests with golf equipment needs and fits guests for proper golf equipment; works with external vendors to ensure guest equipment specifications are met in order to maximize guest satisfaction; proactively markets Forest Akers Golf Courses and lesson offerings to increase golf course revenues; coordinates registration processes for golf lessons, clinics, and course use; answers guest questions about golf course operations and optimal methods of playing golf; provides general assistance in all areas of Forest Akers golf course operations as needed; maintains proper cashier, accounting, and deposit controls for Forest Akers Golf Courses per MSU policies; maintains membership and certification through the PGA or LPGA; this job requires significant physical effort and involves walking, standing, and related physical activities involved in instructing others in the game of golf 26-75% of the time.Â
All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency conditions, you will be expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If you have an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of your normally scheduled work hours remotely, you may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community. Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing an associate’s degree in Golf Course Management, Marketing, or a related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in instructing others in the game of golf; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and may require certification in a related sports area, ongoing membership(s) in professional organization(s) related to the specific recreational sport; and professional level competitive experience in the specific recreational sport.
