SummaryWe are seeking a team player to join our staff that has a passion for collegiate athletics and the drive to excel as a Licensed Athletic Trainer. Key characteristics we are looking for: self-starter with a passion to bring new and inventive skills to the table, with the ability to work with several athletic teams while obtaining a Master’s degree.Duties The graduate Athletic Trainer shall perform all duties pertaining to her/his program. Duties include but are not limited to:• Emergency Medical/Game Day Care: Provide emergency medical evaluation, treatment, and injury triage to student-athletes during practice and/or competition. Design and fabricates protective equipment and apply appropriate taping/wrapping to support extremities and prevent further aggravation to existing injuries. Ensure the proper fitting of protective team equipment.• Follow-Up Medical Care: Provide daily follow-up care and evaluation of the injured/ill athletes and communicate with appropriate coaching and athletic staff regarding the status of injury/illness and participation capabilities. • Game and Practice Coverage: The graduate assistant Athletic Trainer will provide practice and/or game coverage, as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Medicine.• Medical Documentation: The graduate assistant Athletic Trainer will properly document all injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation of injured athletes. He/she will maintain student-athlete pre-season paperwork, injury/treatment documentation, and communication and Internet access hardware and software.• Communication: The graduate assistant Athletic Trainer will effectively communicate verbally and in writing; develop effective working relationships with athletes and serve as a liaison among athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians, and other health professionals.• Professional Development: The graduate assistant Athletic Trainer must engage in professional development for his/herself. He/she is responsible for keeping up with the current trends and developments; as well as the implementation in order to perform duties more effectively. • Working with Team Physicians and Other Sports Medicine Professionals: The graduate assistant Athletic Trainer will work closely with the team physicians and extended sports medicine staff regarding the care and management of injuries and illnesses. This includes serving as the liaison between the athletic department and the medical community, regarding the health care of the student-athletes with referrals to physicians and allied health care professionals.• Promote the Brand of the Athletic Department and the University: Shall continually strive to enhance the image of the Sul Ross State University Athletics Department and its programs through in-game conduct, interpersonal contacts with parents, visitors, university faculty/staff, and community citizens. Additionally, the graduate Athletic Trainer shall participate in Athletic Department and University-sponsored events and initiatives;• Create an Atmosphere of Compliance: Know, recognize, and comply with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the NCAA, the ASC, and the Sul Ross State University Athletic Department. Supervise and ensure that any students and any other employees and/or volunteers for whom you are administratively responsible comply with the aforesaid policies, rules, and regulations. Sul Ross State University Alpine Campus is in the Scenic Davis Mountains of West Texas, is a member of the Texas State University System, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degrees, and has an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students of campus in Alpine, Texas. At an elevation of 4,480 feet, and on the periphery of the Chihuahuan Desert, Alpine enjoys mild winters and cool summers. Davis Mountains State Park, Fort Davis National Historic Site, Big Bend National Park, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park are all within one to three hours driving distance from Alpine.The SRSU campuses in Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Uvalde comprise Rio Grande College. RGC offers upper-level courses leading to bachelor’s degrees as well as master’s degree programs and works closely with its partner institution, Southwest Texas Junior College, to provide a seamless transition to RGC for their students.
