Under the general direction of the Director of Athletics and Head Coach, the Graduate Assistant for Women’s Volleyball will assist the head coach in recruiting qualified student-athletes to the program, instruct and develop the student-athlete in the sport of volleyball, game preparation, and community involvement. Instruction should include, but not limited to the rules, strategies, and techniques relating to practice and competition in this sport. The Graduate Assistant will also support the mission and goals of the Athletic Department.

Coaching, Instruction, and Team Administration (60%)

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor’s degree and full acceptance into one of Hood College’s graduate programs are required. Proven successful coaching, with 2-3 years experience preferred, preferably at the collegiate level or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations is preferred.
Technology Skills
Computer proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. Proficient with the internet and email. Ability to learn new applications quickly including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret medical documents and NCAA guidelines. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, parents or others. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to develop marketing or promotional materials.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts timely and accurately, either manually by using a calculator. Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to hypothesize, draw conclusions, and support conclusions. Ability to work in the theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.
Compensation
The compensation for Athletic Graduate Assistants consists of a $3,000 annual stipend, a tuition waiver for up to 18 credits per year, campus housing, and a meal plan. This temporary position is not benefits-eligible except for paid Maryland sick leave. Learn more about Hood College.
