Mary Baldwin University (MBU) seeks a full time Head Athletic Trainer for its NCAA Division III athletics program. The successful candidate reports directly to the Director of Athletics.

The successful candidate will take the lead in all facets of the athletic training program for MBU’s 15-sport NCAA Division III athletics program, including:
Athletic Training
Perform as Certified Athletic Trainer, under the direction of the team physician, in managing the work-related health care of student-athletes. Such health care includes, but is not limited to: first aid/emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, application of appropriate modalities, developing and implementing rehabilitation and prevention programs, as well as conducting rehabilitation and making medical referrals for all NCAA varsity and emerging sports
Assist in the engagement, development, and management of the medical training staff, including, as applicable, student athletic trainers
Serve as a clinical preceptor for athletic training students
Provide sport coverage for practice and games, which may require travel; must be available for treatment prior to and following practices and contests
Coordinate with visiting teams to supply athletic training needs
Work in conjunction with the University’s strength coach to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual needs
Order, maintain and inventory supplies and clinical equipment
Keep training room and clinic area safe, clean and organized
Establish and maintain positive training room culture
Incorporate new methods and techniques arising from the ever-changing field of sports
Medicine
Comply with all NATA, NCAA, and athletic conference medical policies, protocol, and operations manual, as well as with all applicable employment policies and laws
Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to compete
Under the direction of the supervising Team Physician, assist with the organization and maintenance of applicable pharmaceutical inventory and records
Supervise any assistant athletic trainers, athletic training students and other medical staff, as applicable
Facilitate and administer COVID testing, policies and procedures Athletic Training Administrative Duties
Maintain complete, accurate, and up to date student-athlete health and participation records in the electronic medical record system
Electronically document first report of injury, student-athlete treatments, and return to play dates
Maintain daily treatment/rehabilitation logs
Communicate on a regular basis with the Team Physicians regarding injury reports and updates, as well as the coaching staff
Initiate and collaborate internally on insurance claims for student-athlete injuries as a result of their participation in NCAA athletics
Maintain budget
Coordinate medical referrals and serve as a liaison between student-athletes, physicians, coaches, parents, and school administrators
Manage website forms and procedures for NCAA documentation
Professional and Wellness Responsibilities
Demonstrate and apply interpersonal skills required to work effectively with student-athletes, coaches, other team personnel and staff
Willingness to participate or lead on-campus research in area of specialization
Serve as a mandated reporter for all student-conduct issues and report such information accordingly
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. BOC Athletic Training Certification. CPR and AED certifications as well as a Virginia license for Athletic Training or be eligible to obtain the state license. Candidates must have strong organizational skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively within the athletic department and throughout the University community. Strong oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of and commitment to NCAA Division III rules. Valid driver’s license and ability to establish driver eligibility under the University’s Driving and Motor Vehicle Policy. The successful candidate must pass all required background and reference checks.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree. Previous experience in collegiate athletics. Previous history of relationship-building and cultivation of former student-athletes and other program stakeholders.
