Assures the health and well-being of student athletes involved in intercollegiate athletics through development, coordination, and administration of a comprehensive sports medicine program.
Apply NowAdministers a sports medicine program, which includes schedule physical exams, maintain student athlete medical records, coordinate insurance filings, set up physician referrals for athletic injury evaluation, and coordinate drug testing program.
Implements policies, procedures, and protocols for athletic training services in compliance with NCAA/NAIA recommendations, team physicians advice, and departmental criteria, which includes emergency actions plans and environmental safety protocols.
Develops and implements an athletics training program, which includes injury prevention, evaluation, management, treatment, rehabilitation, and education and counseling of injuries and illnesses; determines an athlete?s ability to participate in practice or competition.
Coordinates with coaching staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student athlete needs.
Manages the athletic training budget, maintains an inventory of appropriate supplies, and oversees maintenance of equipment.
Coordinates daily operations of the athletic training room, which includes supervision and training of assistant athletic trainer and student athletic trainers.
Participates in professional development activities to stay abreast of current trends, policies, and guidelines regarding health care and safety of intercollegiate student athletes.
Evaluates and recommends new techniques and equipment that enhance the benefit of the sports medicine program.
Establishes and maintains relationships with local and regional physicians and hospitals for referral of injuries and illnesses.
Coordinates athletic training services for home contests, provides athletic training services for visiting teams; and communicates the needs of university athletes when they travel.
Ensures athletes and coaches have appropriate supplies, water, and injury ice at practices.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in physical education, health, or related field and (3) years related experience; requires NATA, Texas Licensed Athletic Trainer, CPR, AED, and standard first aid certifications
