Job Description:

The Head Athletic Trainer handles responsibilities pertaining to student-athlete health and wellness. The day-to-day components of the position ranges from providing the care, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for all student-athletes to scheduling coverage for scheduled practices, home contests and selected away contests to overseeing, creating and tracking all student-athlete medical forms and insurance. The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for managing the athletic training operating budget and supervising and scheduling part-time assistant athletic trainer(s) and student-workers. All job components shall be completed with attention to the college, conference and NCAA compliance, rules and regulations while supporting the leadership, direction and vision of the Vice President of Athletics and Recreation. This is a 12-month, full-time, exempt position reporting to the Vice President of Athletics and Recreation.

Position Duties:

• Manage all aspects of the Athletic Training facility.
• Supervise Assistant Athletic Trainers, Interns, work study students and student-athletes.
• Provide direct student health care services to student-athletes, including assessment of injuries and medical conditions, establishing plan of care, and providing rehabilitative and/or preventive treatment for future encounters.
• Assist students with health care needs and concerns by providing resources, education, guidance, and referral to and from the team Physicians, and other health care practitioners as necessary.
• Provide athletic training services during scheduled team practices and contests, including traveling with teams, when appropriate.
• Supervise and schedule assistant athletic trainers and any outside athletic training services.
• Administer pre-participation examinations for all student-athletes.
• Work collaboratively in creating and implementing policies and procedures for the effective operation of the sports medicine clinic.
• Facilitate communication with Vice President of Athletics and Recreation and coaches regarding all services being provided to athletics, including practice and game coverage and the health status of the student-athletes.
• Collaborate with physician offices to schedule student-athlete appointments for follow up care of diagnostic imaging as necessary.
• Coordinate and oversee patient referrals in consultation with team physician and Dean College Health and Counseling Services.
• Maintain the appropriate level of confidentiality regarding student-athletes' medical, insurance, and academic records.
• Communicate effectively with coaches, student-athletes, faculty, parents, and others as necessary regarding the participation status of student-athletes.
• Serve as a point of contact for other college departments and outside providers/suppliers.
• Perform required record keeping for the designated student-athletes, including injury, treatment, and progress notes.
• Work collaboratively in the maintenance and upkeep of the Dean College Sports Medicine Department.
• Participate in a variety of academic and athletic efforts, including committee assignments and student recruitment efforts as requested.
• Order and maintain inventory of supplies for the Athletic Training Room.
• Create an annual budget in collaboration with the Vice President of Athletics and Recreation.
• Keep up to date on current practices in athletic training and maintain Massachusetts licensure.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Master's degree in athletic training or related field, required.
• 5+ years of experience as an Athletic Trainer at the college level.
• Certified by the National Athletic Training Association Board of Certification (BOC), required.
• Maintain Massachusetts state athletic training licensure, required.
• Meet criteria for certification as established in the National Athletic Training Association with respect to continuing education units (CEU'S), and First Aid CPR/AED certification, required, or willingness to obtain.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to foster an engaging, innovative, and collaborative workplace culture.
• Demonstrate skills in interacting effectively with students, staff, faculty, physicians, athletics personnel, families, and others.
