• Maintains the departmental emergency plan and equipment.
• Coordinates insurance claims for all athletic-related injuries/illnesses.
• Supervise certified assistant athletic trainers who collectively have primary responsibilities: treating student-athletes; supervising sports medicine assistants; and teaching courses in the kinesiology curriculum.
• Provide general counsel, guidance, and inspiration to students regarding their overall success, particularly utilizing new student orientation activities, career services, and academic success programs, living successfully in residence halls, and behaving within the College’s student conduct expectations. Promote good sportsmanship.
• Demonstrate community involvement with active leadership as a positive role model including participation in community service projects, and encouragement of student-athlete participation in mentoring or other service programs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and a commitment to the values, standards, and expectations of NCAA Division III athletics and a liberal arts college. National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification required. Must be eligible for a license in the state of Iowa. Preferred qualifications include CPR and First Aid Instructor Certified and previous experience as a certified athletic trainer and athletics administration preferred.

Must have a valid Iowa driver’s license and insurance coverage (if driving own vehicle) or be insurable to drive on behalf of the College.

Preferred Skills

Skills in preventing athletic injuries, providing physical examinations, developing training and conditioning programs, selecting protective equipment, creating a safe athletic environment, evaluating athletic injuries and medical referrals, providing first aid and emergency care, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries, counseling and guidance of athletes, and educating Sports Medicine Assistants. Knowledge of ordering equipment and supplies, record keeping, supervising assistants and Sports Medicine Assistants. Must be self-directed, well organized, and capable of assuming varied responsibilities. Administration, management and supervision of employees are key components for the success of this position. Computer knowledge is preferred.

Knowledge of MWC and NCAA regulations, policies and procedures. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with a diverse population. Ability to positively influence public relations between the athletic department, the campus and the community.

Working Conditions

This position works in person and travel is required. Frequent weekend and evening hours are required. Working environment includes both indoors and outdoors, exposure to various weather conditions, including temperature extremes.

The hiring pay range for this 10-month position is $45,000 - $50,000. The position is scheduled to work August 1 - May 31 annually.
