The Head Athletic Trainer is a Piedmont University Athletic Department member, reporting to the Director of Athletics. The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for all operational aspects of the college’s Athletic Training Program. Particular responsibilities include the following:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Oversees all activities performed in the Athletic Training Department;
• Provide prevention, treatment, evaluation, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries;
• Provide practice/game coverage for all intercollegiate sports;
• Manages departmental budget for athletic training;
• Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment in the Athletic Training Room;
• Oversees Associate Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Athletic Trainers
• Acts as a preceptor for students in the Athletic Training Education Program
• Oversees the Secondary Insurance Claims Process for injured athletes;
• Oversees CPR / AED / First Aid training for all coaches;
• Monitors weather conditions and makes recommendations based on student-athlete welfare;
• Makes medical referrals for student-athletes injured as a result of athletic competition; 
• Oversees rehabilitation procedures for student-athletes under the supervision of the appropriate physician. 
• Maintains proper medical records of treatment;
• Develop a work schedule affording accessibility to student-athletes;
• Reports on needs and maintenance of Athletic Training facilities and maintenance;
• Attends professional meetings, clinics, and workshops as appropriate.
• The Head Athletic Trainer accepts other duties, as assigned, to ensure the successful operation of athletic department activities.
• The Head Athletic Trainer reports directly to the Director of Athletics. He shares the responsibility for the overall general operation of the athletic department.
• Other relevant duties as assigned.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
• On-site work is required.
• Incumbents must remain relevant in the area of employment and flexible to changes in work related to institutional needs.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience

·         Bachelor's Degree and Graduate of a CAATE Accredited Athletic Training Program

·         A minimum of 6 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specific to this description.

·         Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Licenses and Certification

·         BOC Certified

·         State of Georgia Licensed or Eligible

·         Must be CPR / AED / First Aid Certified

·         Valid Georgia Driver’s License (or obtained within 30 days of hire date) and satisfactory MVR.

Supplemental Information

ENVIRONMENTAL, PHYSICAL, and VISUAL ACUITY FACTORS

Essential functions of this position require incumbents to work in both inside and outside environmental conditions. Incumbents could be exposed to extreme heat (high temperature and humidity) and extreme cold (temperatures below freezing). Additionally, incumbents will be subject to noise levels causing incumbents to shout to be heard above the ambient noise level.

Incumbents duties will require a medium level of work where they will exert up to 50lbs of force occasionally, 20lbs of force frequently, and/or 10lbs of force constantly to move objects. Essential functions require incumbents to: climb to ascend stairs, ladders, and/or hills; balance to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling; stoop by bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist; kneel; crouch; crawl; reach; stand; walking; push and pull; lift; use fingering and grasping; feel; talk to exchange ideas; hear at normal speaking levels; and make repetitive motions.

Visual acuity is required to allow incumbents to operate motor vehicles.
