Reporting to the Athletic Director, the Head Coach is responsible for all facets of Winthrop’s
NCAA
Division I Baseball program and for creating an environment that best represents the division’s objectives.
Organizes, prepares and conducts individual and team practices, training and competitions.
Teaches offensive and defensive skills and strategies and employs sound coaching techniques to develop a nationally competitive program.
Supervises athlete conditioning.
Manages the team budget and purchases equipment and uniforms.
Evaluates player and opponent capabilities to determine game strategy.
Recruits student-athletes in accordance with Big South and
NCAA
rules and
regulations.
Responsible for the academic achievement, retention and graduation of each student-athlete on the roster.
Prepares student-athletes physically, mentally and emotionally for post-season success and conference championships, as well as life after college.
Participates in fundraising and public relations activities to promote the program and Winthrop Athletics.
Represents the university at various institutional programs and externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, parents and the general public.
Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of coaching experience at the collegiate level.
Master’s degree and seven years of coaching experience, including head coach and
NCAA
DI experience.
Expert knowledge of the sport of baseball and a good understanding of
intercollegiate athletics. Working knowledge of
NCAA
, Big South and
university rules and regulations and their application. Demonstrated ability
to hire, train, supervise and evaluate employees and student-athletes.
Exceptional organizational, leadership, coaching, mentoring and
communication skills. Proven ability to assess player and opponent skills;
recruit and retain student-athletes; and develop effective working
relationships with co-workers, employees, students and their families, and
the general public.
