Job Summary: Evangel University is seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Baseball Coach to lead our NAIA baseball program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to developing a competitive and successful team, fostering the academic, athletic, and spiritual growth of student-athletes, and upholding the mission and values of Evangel University. This role involves leadership in strategic planning, coaching, recruitment, and administrative responsibilities to ensure the program's excellence and integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative Duties:
Manage the baseball program's budget, including equipment, travel, and other operational expenses.
Manage the baseball program's student scholarship offers and roster size according to university goals and expectations.
Coordinate the issuance, care and inventory of equipment and uniforms.
Coordinate travel, game schedules, and logistics for home and away competitions as well as off-season activities.
Ensure compliance with NAIA, conference, and institutional regulations and policies.
Ensure the proper completion of physical examinations and all forms relating to emergency medical authorization and insurance.
Complete the NAIA coaches champions of character training course.
Supply the Sports Information Director with player rosters, team results, records broken, as well as individual and team season highlights.
Collaborate with the compliance coordinator for eligibility certification.
Follow department and university guidelines for purchasing, travel, reimbursement and maintenance of facilities.
Other duties as assigned by Athletic Director.
Program Leadership:
Develop and implement a comprehensive training program that prepares athletes for competition at the highest level, in accordance with the university's Christian values.
Establish a team culture that promotes sportsmanship, academic achievement, spiritual growth and personal development.
Oversee all aspects of the baseball program, including practice sessions, game strategies, and player development, ensuring alignment with the mission of Evangel University.
Recruitment and Retention:
Identify, evaluate, and recruit talented student-athletes who align with the Christian mission and values of Evangel University and who can succeed academically and athletically.
Capitalize on the unique, broad national reach of Evangel within the Assemblies of God denomination in identifying and recruiting potential student-athletes.
Develop relationships across the nation with pastors, alumni, and coaches who have ties to Evangel and/or the Assemblies of God denomination. Utilize this network to identify and recruit potential student-athletes who can help raise the national profile of Evangel baseball.
Develop and maintain relationships with high school coaches, club coaches, and prospective student-athletes.
Ensure the retention of student-athletes through effective mentoring and support.
Coaching and Mentoring:
Provide expert coaching during practices and games, focusing on skill development, teamwork, and competitive strategies.
Mentor student-athletes on academic, athletic, spiritual, and personal issues, fostering their overall development.
Conduct individual and group training sessions to improve players' technical and tactical abilities.
Community and Faith Engagement:
Represent the baseball program and Evangel University positively in the community, through public appearances.
Organize and participate in fundraising activities and events to support the baseball program in cooperation with the athletic and advancement offices.
Work with the advancement office to develop and maintain alumni relations to enhance support for the program including providing information for a monthly newsletter to the advancement office during season and a quarterly newsletter during off-season.
Encourage and facilitate team participation in community service and Christ-centered activities.
Subit all sponsorship opportunities to the advancement office and assist in finding appropriate corporate partners.
Actively promote 4Ever Maroon booster club membership to parents, patrons, and alumni throughout the year as appropriate.
Proven experience coaching baseball, preferably at the collegiate level and/or within the NAIA.
Strong understanding of NAIA rules and regulations.
Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain student-athletes who align with Christian values.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Commitment to academic, athletic, and spiritual excellence.
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and foster a collaborative team environment.
Strong personal faith and commitment to the mission of Evangel University.
Work Environment:
The Head Baseball Coach reports to the Director of Athletics. Offices for the baseball staff are located in the Evangel University Indoor Baseball/Softball Complex. Practice and home games are held on the Evangel Valor Baseball Field.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
Travel is required for recruiting, games, and other baseball related activities.
Physical ability to conduct practices and oversee all game-day activities.
