LC State invites applications for the position of Head Cheer and Dance Coach.
Salary and rank based on experience and qualifications: $47,000 - $50,000
Degree Required: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university
Required Qualifications:
Two (2) years of sport-relevant coaching/teaching.
Experience with fundraising and budget management.
Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
Experience in technical studio dance training.
Knowledge of NAIA and Cascade Conference.
Ability to develop and foster mutually beneficial relationships within the college and community.
Responsibilities:
Cheer and Dance Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of the Dance and Cheer program including developing student-athletes through a variety of instructional methods and developing sport-specific skills. In addition to coaching, this position maintains control and oversight of sports budgets, recruitment and retention of student-athletes, program travel, academic success, and scheduling of sports events.
Effectively instruct student-athletes in all essential sport-specific skills needed to be a successful college student-athlete.
Clearly communicate instruction of sports-related skills during all practices and competitions.
Teach student-athletes proper strength and conditioning training techniques and form to ensure a safe and effective training environment.
Conduct their programs in accordance with the NAIA regulations.
Provide a positive atmosphere.
Stay current concerning rule changes, training techniques, and strategies in their respective sports.
Educate student-athletes on the department, institution, and NAIA rules and regulations; including eligibility.
Rosters goal sizes of at least 15 student-athletes (dance) and 8 student-athletes (cheer) for 2024-25 and rosters goal sizes of at least 15 student-athletes (dance) and 10 student-athletes (cheer) for 2025-26.
Observe and uphold academic standards, requirements, and policies of Lewis-Clark State College, encourage team members to perform to their highest academic potential and to graduate in a timely manner.
Know, recognize, and comply with all applicable laws, and with the policies, rules, and regulations of Lewis-Clark State College, the Idaho State Board of Education (SBOE), the conference, and the NAIA. Supervise and take appropriate steps to ensure that Coach's assistant coaches, any other employees for whom Coach is administratively responsible, and the members of the team know, recognize, and comply with all such laws, policies, rules, and regulations; and immediately report to the Director and to the Department's Director of Compliance if Coach has reasonable cause to believe that any person or entity, including without limitation representatives of Lewis-Clark State College's athletic interests, has violated or is likely to violate any such laws, policies, rules or regulations. Coach shall cooperate fully with Lewis-Clark State College and the Department at all times. The applicable laws, policies, rules, and regulations include (a) SBOE policies; (b) Lewis-Clark State College's policies and procedures; (c) the policies of the Department; (d) NAIA rules and regulations; and (e) the rules and regulations of the conference of which Lewis-Clark State College is a member.
Competencies:
Dance and cheer coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level
Strong sportsmanship and managerial skills
Outstanding coordination, administration, and communication skills; including budget management
Ability to schedule travel, accommodations, and itineraries
Ability to assess and evaluate individual student-athlete and team performance
Ability to choreograph dances and cheer routines
Music editing skills
Additional duties include direct and indirect activities to support the recruitment and retention of students.
