About This Role:

The Head Cheer and Mascot Coach maintains control and oversight of the overall program which includes but is not limited to creating and implementing the program’s operational practices, creating and teaching routines while maintaining a high level of safety of the cheer squad through proper teaching of techniques and safety procedures in compliance with USA Cheer National Safety Standards, recruiting and selecting students to the squad, maintaining knowledge of gameday cheer trends to positively impact the fan experience, marketing, public relations, fundraising, and managing the program’s budget, including purchases and procurements.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Coach, manager and advisor of the KSA Cheer and Mascot Program (50%): this includes formulating and implementing program management and participation policies; maintaining the welfare, direction, instruction, and academic progress of squad members; coordinating and leading all activities such as practices, workouts, tryouts, home and select away games; handling complaints and providing grievance resolutions; creating and implementing a Code of Conduct Policy; teaching and supervising high-intensity cheer and mascot routines that include elite tumbling, stunting, and skills to ensure the safety of both the squad members and public by following USA Cheer National Safety Standards; collaborate with multiple support staff including athletic training, strength and conditioning, equipment, and fan experience staff plus K-State Bands and dance team staff.

Oversee and manage the cheer and mascot budget and fundraising efforts (15%): this includes monitoring and maintaining expenses and incoming funds to remain within budget limitations; responsible for all travel, hotel, and meal arrangements, game day expenses, appearance costs, travel reports, and scholarship distribution based on performance, grades and fund availability; formulate and implement policies regarding fundraising tactics to raise funds for cheer program budget.

Oversee appearances, marketing and public relations for program (30%): this includes organizing scheduling, attending and supervising numerous appearances with K-State fans, alumni, outside businesses and area schools to increase public awareness of K-State and to promote the K-State Wildcats.
