Position Description – Head Cheer Coach
Belhaven University, a Christ-centered university located in Jackson, MS, is receiving applications for the role of
Head Cheer Coach. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a dynamic, spirited cheer
program, grounded in discipleship and mentoring. Belhaven is an NCAA Division III institution sponsoring
eighteen sports programs and holding conference membership in the Collegiate Conference of the South and
USA South Conference and is also a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU).

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The Head Cheer Coach is directly accountable to the Vice President and Director
of Athletics and is responsible for the leadership and administration of all aspects of the Cheer program,
including: Recruiting and retaining talented, good-fit student-athletes; providing mature, biblical spiritual
leadership and direction for student-athletes and staff; mentoring student-athletes in their academic
performance to assure timely progress toward degree completion and graduation; coaching the team during
scheduled practices and competitions; demonstrating increasing competitive accomplishment; maintaining
responsibility for expense control with all program expenditures; developing a schedule for home sport
competition in football and basketball; team community service activities; cultivating relationships with
campus faculty and staff and external relationships with cheer alumni and friends of the program; potentially
providing competition opportunities, as well as other duties assigned by supervisor.
The role is currently part-time in structure, size, duties and compensation, but with the potential to grow
quickly into a full-time position.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrated success in coaching cheer, preferably at the collegiate level, as well
as a Bachelor’s degree. Effective verbal and written communication skills; sound interpersonal skills in dealing
with student-athletes, university personnel and members of the off-campus community; ability to operate a
collegiate football program within budget parameters. The candidate must fully support the vision and mission
