Western Colorado University is seeking qualified candidates to fill the full-time position of Head Cheerleading Coach.
Responsibilities: Responsible for providing leadership, planning, organizing and administering all aspects of Western’s Cheer program. The incumbent will be responsible for fostering and supporting student-athlete welfare; recruiting highly qualified student-athletes; practice scheduling, home game appearance and competitions; coaching student-athletes in practice and competitions; maintaining a strong academic environment; maintaining budget, conducting and managing all facets of camps, cultivating alumni, direct involvement working with program-specific fundraising as well as participation in Athletic Department fundraising. Ability to establish good rapport and relationships with players, administrators, staff, alumni, and general public is necessary. Other relevant duties may be assigned by the Director of Athletics or designee.
The Head Cheerleading Coach will coordinate all aspects of spirit teams at home events. This includes, but is not limited to: the cheer team, Western Colorado University dance team, Western mascot, Western Colorado University drumline, and half-time promotional events with corporate sponsors. With the exception of games that occur during Western school breaks, the cheer team will be present at all home football, women & men’s basketball games. The cheer team will also be present at all playoff games that Western Athletics hosts, including any playoff games that may occur during official school holiday/breaks. The cheer team will also coordinate with the volleyball, soccer, and wrestling head coaches and the Athletics Facilities & Operations Coordinator to schedule home game appearances of the cheer team at 50% or more of home events.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree preferred. Minimum of three years cheer/dance coaching experience preferred. Must have current certification or ability to obtain certification in First Aid / CPR / AED. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Compensation: Position is full-time, twelve-month position with a salary of $48,500. Position is eligible for an excellent benefits package including shared premium health and dental insurance plans, life insurance, generous paid time off, a shared contribution retirement plan and, after one year of employment, tuition benefits.
