This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefit based position with an approximate end date of August 1, 2025. The appointment is renewable at the discretion of the University and dependent upon performance and continued funding.
The head cheerleading coach is responsible for the coaching, training, and performance of the Torero Cheer team, supporting the University of San Diego’s NCAA Division I Athletics in the Pioneer Football League and the West Coast Conference. Responsibilities include organizing weekly practices, team meetings, and team-building exercises, coordinating all aspects of preparation and coaching for athletic and competition events, ensuring the team receives choreography and instruction for both traditional and new routines, and assisting with planning and coordinating team selections.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coaching:
Coaching, training, and motivating cheer team members to create a vibrant game-day environment for fans, while promoting a safe and encouraging atmosphere.
Ensure compliance with all relevant institutional, USA Cheer (governing body of cheerleading safety), and NCAA rules and regulations.
Provide technical training and expertise in skill development and protocols to ensure cheer team members progress at appropriate levels, maintaining a risk-free environment in practices, game-day settings, and competition events.
Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations.
Administrative Duties:
Manage time effectively in a demanding work environment.
Communicate effectively with all team members throughout the season on performance, academics, personal growth, and various needs as a mentor of a college cheer team.
Collaborate with the External Affairs team to play a significant role on campus and in the Linda Vista community.
Manage the process of ordering and sizing uniforms, and oversee the collection of funds for warm-ups, gear, and other program necessities.
Coordinate the budget for the cheer program and engage in fundraising activities when necessary to support program needs.
Additional Responsibilities:
Encourage team member development with a demonstrated commitment to high academic standards, ensuring cheer team members succeed both academically and athletically. Monitor academic progress.
Support the Athletics Marketing department in game-day activities and fan engagement, as well as on-campus events and university partnerships.

CPR/AED/First Aid certification required within six weeks of hire date.
Must obtain and/or maintain all USA Cheer certifications.
Must be able to work nights and weekends.
Must be able to withstand environmental conditions when working outside.
Background check:
Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
Degree Verification Requirement
: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Two or more years of coaching experience.
Performance Expectations - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Highly motivated candidates with previous coaching and/or cheering experience are greatly preferred.
Strong knowledge of, and willingness to comply with, all NCAA, West Coast Conference, University of San Diego, and USA Cheer rules and regulations is required.
Ability to instill the values of the NCAA, West Coast Conference, and University of San Diego in subordinates and students.
Effectively communicate and collaborate with students, parents, faculty, staff, and the community to enhance public relations.
Highly motivated candidates with previous coaching and/or cheering experience are greatly preferred.

$22.00-$27.00 per hour
The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
