The Head Women's Volleyball Coach is responsible for all facets of the volleyball program which include but are not limited to: recruiting, fund-raising, coaching, preseason training, budget formulation, analysis and management, equipment purchases, public and community relations, parental relations, and the health safety and well-being of the volleyball staff and student-athletes. The head coach is responsible for the recruitment, training and management of multiple full-time staff members.
*Willingness and ability to work a non-traditional schedule including early morning, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Specific Responsibilities: Â Â
Coaching
•       Full responsibility for coaching and training Northwestern's Women's Volleyball team; for developing and conducting all in-season and out-of-season sessions as deemed necessary and appropriate.
•       Has responsibility for psychological preparation of team in both pre-game and post-game; and for developing motivational approach to practices and matches.
•       Organize teaching procedures for women's volleyball staff. Conduct team meetings and assignments as necessary.
•       Continue to develop comprehensive knowledge of women's volleyball in decision-making, delegating authority, and in setting objectives.
Administrative
•       Collaborate with the Sport Administrator in the development of a competitive schedule.
•       Responsible for search and selection of qualified assistant coaching staff with approval of designated Sport Administrator.
•       Direct and manage staff of assistant coaches. Delegate and prioritize administrative responsibilities to assistants.
•       Conduct annual staff evaluations and recommend merit salary increases to Deputy Director of Athletics/CFO for approval.
•       Responsible for presenting a projected annual budget for approval by the Deputy Director of Athletics/CFO. Accountable for expense control compliance and administration of annual budget. Implement department operational procedures and policies.
•       Responsible for coordinating individual travel arrangements for competitions and off-campus practice, and for the conduct and appearance of the team when traveling as representatives of Northwestern University.
Recruiting
•       Responsible for the national recruitment of top student-athletes, commensurate with the admissions qualifications of Northwestern University who are capable of successfully competing at the Big Ten level. Work closely with the designated Sport Administrator to develop recruiting strategies and a pool of admissible prospects. Maintain good relations with parents of prospective and current student-athletes.
•       Manage and direct extensive on-campus recruiting program, developing sound relations with faculty and staff as appropriate.
Student Affairs
•       Demonstrate interest in academic progress of student-athletes. Work closely with Academic Services in solving and preventing academic problems.
•       Cooperate with team physicians and training staff regarding health care and decisions of practice and participation of student-athletes.
Alumni Relations, Public Relations and Development
•       Responsible for the maintenance of sound alumni relations in cooperation with Athletics Development staff, also responsible for promoting and participating in various alumni events.
•       Assist Athletics Development staff in fundraising efforts on behalf of the volleyball program and the department as requested.
•       Responsible for maintaining good public relations with the public news media, and working with the Athletic Communications department in promoting Northwestern University. Maintain amicable public relations with faculty, staff, students and media of the University, friends, alumni support groups and secondary school coaches.
Other
•       Report to the designated Sport Administrator and faithfully and diligently carry out other Department-related duties as assigned.
•       Demonstrate a cooperative attitude towards all sports in the Intercollegiate and Recreational programs.
•       Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA.
•       Responsible for adhering to all Department and University continuing education initiatives and required certifications and trainings.
•        Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•       Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
•       5-7 years’ volleyball coaching experience at the intercollegiate or international level.
•       Valid driver's license
•       Communicates effectively in one-to-one, in small groups and in public speaking contexts; writes precise, well-organized emails, letters and proposals while using appropriate vocabulary and grammar.
•       Plans, organizes and schedules in an efficient, productive manner; anticipates contingencies and demonstrates flexibility. Excellent organizational skills and pays attention to detail.
•       Knowledge of rules and regulations of the NCAA, Big Ten Conference and Northwestern University preferred.
•       Ability to work cooperatively with others and effectively interact with diverse populations.
•       Ability to establish engaging relationships within and across racialized and other marginalized communities.
•       Master’s degree preferred.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $150,000-$250,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
