Job Description

The Head Bass Fishing Coach provides visionary leadership for the university’s competitive bass fishing program. This position is responsible for recruiting, coaching, mentoring, and discipling student-athletes while fostering competitive excellence in regional and national collegiate tournaments. The coach will align the program with the university’s Christian mission, promoting spiritual growth, academic achievement, and Christ-centered leadership. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Administration
• Develop and implement a strategic plan for building a nationally competitive bass fishing program.
• Organize, manage, and supervise all team activities including practices, tournament preparation, and travel.
• Ensure compliance with all conference, association, and governing body regulations (e.g., B.A.S.S. College Series, Major League Fishing Abu Garcia College Fishing, Association of Collegiate Anglers).
• Manage equipment, boats, safety standards, and risk management protocols.
• Oversee team budget in coordination with the Athletic Director.
Recruitment & Retention
• Identify and recruit high-character student-athletes who align with the university’s Christian values.
• Build relationships with high school coaches, club teams, and fishing organizations.
• Assist in retention efforts through intentional mentoring and academic support.
Student-Athlete Development
• Provide technical instruction in bass fishing strategy, boat operation, tournament preparation, and water safety.
• Promote academic excellence and monitor student-athlete academic progress.
