Displays competent knowledge of the sport (strategy, adjustments, and practice design)
Communicates in a positive fashion with student- athletes throughout the season
Creates organized and appropriate practice and competition plans
Develops and teaches conditioning and drills for in-season and off-season, scouting and game planning during competition season
Displays knowledge of video use and works with student-athletes to study and improve performance
Is responsible for all areas of leadership with student-athletes, assigns leadership duties to assistants as needed
Makes connections between athletics and the mission of McKendree University (models compassionate behavior towards athletes, contributes to the team with dignity)
Contributes to an environment of fairness, commitment, and positive sportsmanship with athletes, parents, coaches, officials, and fans
Develops a positive rapport with McKendree University personnel including students, athletes, coaches, faculty, and staff.

OPERATIONS/MANAGER** 30% Time**
A Head Coach:
Attends all required meetings related to the team and directs assistants in this area as needed
Passes the NCAA recruiting exam yearly if applicable
Recruits student-athletes to meet recruiting goals and assigns recruiting duties to assistants as needed
Communicates accurately with the athletic department including schedules, transportation, rosters, and results
Creates a safe environment for the student-athletes of the team including facility supervision-practice, competition and locker rooms
Manages equipment needs for the program and assigns duties in this area to assistants as needed
Manages aspects of the team and directs duties in this area to assistants as needed.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
Develops a program for students who are able to compete at the intercollegiate level, adhering at all times to the policies and procedures set forth by McKendree University, the Athletics Department, and the national organization or conference for which his/her sport is affiliated.
Responsible for all aspects of recruiting quality students-athletes to McKendree University in compliance with the national organization or conference for which his/her sport is affiliated. This includes contacting recruits via telephone, mail or visits; evaluation; processing of recruiting paperwork; meeting with prospective student-athletes and parents; ensuring recruits are aware of school, national organization and/or conference policies; coordination with Admissions and Financial Aid personnel; and signing the recruit.
Provides hands-on coaching by conducting drills, briefings, presenting articles, films, etc.
Coordinates/manages all practices and games ensuring physical safety of all team members.
Adheres to the athletic training policies and procedures as they relate to the health and safety of student-athletes.
Analyzes strengths and weaknesses of student-athletes and develops skills to enhance their ability to effectively compete at the intercollegiate level. Determine the playing skill of student-athletes and define their role on the team.
Designs and provides a conditioning program that conforms to the most current techniques advocated and endorsed by the governing organizations.
Delegates responsibility to the assistant coaches, as appropriate.
Develops, justifies, submits both a recruiting budget and an operating budget each fiscal year for uniforms, equipment, supplies, travel expenses, etc. to the Director of Athletics.
Develops, justifies and submits requests for capital expenditures as required.
Provides the equipment necessary to enhance skills development and participation in the sport.
Assists Equipment Manager in accountability and providing secure storage of same.
Identifies, selects and purchases team uniforms which are in compliance with the established standards of the University, and conference policy.
Identifies and reports, through the Athletics Department, known deficiencies of McKendree facilities to McKendree operations/maintenance.
Develops the yearly intercollegiate schedule for the team in coordination with other collegiate teams.
Coordinates all scheduling (home or away), dates and times.
Ensures home matches are supported with equipment that meets the standards of the governing agencies of the sport.
Schedules officials following the guidelines set forth by the applicable governing conference agency.
Coordinates all travel aspects to support away games, to include, transportation, lodging, food, and cash advances. Submits travel expenses upon return, with a full accounting of expenditures.
Ensures the conduct of student-athletes exemplifies appropriate standards of the University, both at home and away matches and during all team travel activities.
Encourages an atmosphere of good sportsmanship among coaching staff and all student-athletes.
Operates the sport program within the operational and scholarship budgets assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Is a role model for all student-athletes by exemplifying appropriate behavior both on and off campus.
Provides long-range plans and goals for the development of the sport program.
Meets with the Director of Athletics or Sport Administrator for season outlook and post-season evaluation.
Cooperates with the Sports Information Director to produce statistics, records, news releases, etc.
Establishes and maintains a Booster Club, if applicable, including any fund-raising efforts.
Obtains approval for all fund raising efforts with the Development Office, the Director of Athletics or Sports Administrator, and the Compliance Office.
Monitors the academic progress, financial aid packages and scholarship funding of student-athletes.
Promotes the program in the community and among alumni. Develops working relationships with local High Schools and college coaches in the surrounding area.
Maintains professional and technical competency via professional development activities.
Functions under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics or Sport Administrator, receiving oral and written instructions when necessary.
Consults and coordinates with faculty, support staff and administration on matters pertaining to the development and execution of the sport.
Operates a sound and solid sport program in compliance with applicable national organization and conference rules and regulations.
Reports all applicable national organization or conference rules violation immediately to the Director of Athletics or Sport Administrator.
Fully adheres to all investigations or inquiries into any NCAA, GLVC, or other governing agency in regards to McKendree University.
Participates and passes the NCAA Coaches Certification Exam if applicable.
Maintains certification in CPR/AED.
Attends all NCAA Rules Education Meetings on campus if applicable.
Attends all Athletics Departmental Meetings.
Attends all NCAA/GLVC or applicable national organization or conference affiliation meetings when applicable.
Assists in the education of student-athletes on NCAA or applicable national organization and conference rules and regulations.
Works diligently with the appropriate athletics administrator on eligibility, financial aid, and all other compliance related issues.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Significant experience in bass fishing leadership, coaching, or competitive bass fishing; demonstrated knowledge of collegiate athletics and student-athlete development; ability to provide mentoring and professional guidance.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong communication, mentoring, organizational, recruiting, team management, and problem-solving skills; ability to maintain confidentiality and collaborate with coaches, administrators, and student-athletes.
Preferred Qualifications
Former collegiate Head Coach experience with proven success in recruiting, fundraising, team management, and competitive performance.
Fully adheres to all investigations or inquiries into any NCAA, GLVC, or other governing agency in regards to McKendree University.
Participates and passes the NCAA Coaches Certification Exam if applicable.
Maintains certification in CPR/AED
Work Conditions
Varies; based on recruiting, games, and practice times. Weekend and evening hours required; travel mandatory.
