The purpose of this position is to provide overall management of the Men’s and Women’s Cycling and Biking programs at the University of Montevallo with specific emphasis on the recruitment and retention of qualified students and a commitment to their safety and academic success. Membership in

Cycling is fundamental to the program.
Lead, guide, direct and implement all elements of safe, competitive collegiate cycling and biking programs;
Recruit and retain qualified students and maintain an adequate, competitive roster;
Implement and require academic standards within the program to promote academic success and degree completion for student participants;
Develop and enforce appropriate disciplinary measures for program or conduct violations;
Provide vision, strategy and leadership to fundraising and program goals that align with the University’s strategic plan;
Develop and maintain excellent public relations to support and promote the program within the University and the broader community;
Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success;
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate subordinate personnel;
Ensure fiscal responsibility by effectively managing the appropriated budget;
Demonstrate sportsmanship and promote competitive success;
Ensure compliance with institutional, local, state, national, and applicable association rules;
Organize all skill instruction and practices, scheduling of races, competitions and training schedules;
Implement safeguards in all areas of the program (including but not limited to travel, equipment, cycling surfaces, etc.) to ensure that the safety of all student participants and program staff is a demonstrated priority.
Ensure that home course will be well maintained and ready for races. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining washout, repairing rain damage, reshaping berms, cutting limbs. Communicate with Athletic Grounds and Shelby County to repair major damage.

The individual holding this position will serve as a representative of the University and, as such, shall promote a positive impression by demonstrating a collegial and professional customer-service approach at all times.
Successful experience in recruiting, coaching, and managing Collegiate Cycling, Biking and or similar programs;
Demonstrated commitment to academic success, diversity, safety, and compliance;
Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
Evidence of successful fundraising;
Membership or ability to obtain & maintain membership with
USA
Cycling;
Knowledge of basic principles of coaching/team supervision;
Ability to effectively coordinate recruiting activities;
Ability to maintain team discipline and instill proper ethical and moral standards.
The educational requirement for this position is: Bachelor’s degree

This position requires: Collegiate playing experience or collegiate coaching experience required.

Certifications, licenses, professional designations, or other qualifications required for this position include:
• Valid Driver’s License
• Acceptable driving record
• Successful completion of First Aid,
CPR
and
AED
training.

This position requires lifting:

This position has the following special vision requirements:
• Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more).
• Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
• Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down or to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point).
• Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).
• Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
