St. Norbert College, a nationally-ranked, private, Catholic, liberal arts college is seeking a Cross Country Head Coach/Assistant Track & Field Coach. This position is charged with assisting the Director of Track & Field/Cross Country, as outlined below, and with fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of the Head Coach of the Cross Country program. The coach is expected to follow all NCAA, Conference and College policies.

Specific responsibilities:

With the assistance of the Director of Track & Field/Cross Country and Director of Athletics, defines and achieves annual enrollment goals of the programs. Recruits qualified student-athletes to participate in the program. Recruiting is by direct mailings, hand written notes, electronic, telephonic and in-person (travel required) means. Assumes responsibility for the retention and matriculation process for student-athletes in their athletic and academic endeavors.

Responsible for the overall function of the cross country programs within conference and NCAA regulations. Represents the program and the College with any internal or external groups as needed. Completes administrative coaching responsibilities such as preparing practice and game plans, scouting opponents, academic studies follow-up with players, check-ins, etc. - 25%

Develops a competent and effective coaching staff by recruiting and hiring qualified applicants, providing guidance on departmental or college policies and coaching philosophy, encouraging professional development through participation in coaching decisions and recruiting activities, making coaching assignments based upon qualifications, supervising coaching activities, and evaluating performance. - 10%

In conjunction with the Director of Track & Field/Cross Country, manages funds by preparing the budget and exercising authority for all expenditures related to the program. - 10%

Teaches approximately 1-2 activity courses in physical education annually or game day management responsibilities. - 10%

Responsible for fundraising efforts on behalf of the programs. - 5%

Performs additional duties as assigned and attend College required training. Regular attendance is required. Works in a manner that is aware of personal safety and the safety of others and observes safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices required by the College or governmental authority.

Supervision Exercised Over:

• 1 assistant coach and 10-15 student workers.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education -

• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience and Credentials -

• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse campus environment or commitment to do so as an employee of St. Norbert College.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -

• Strong ability to recruit student athletes in the context of NCAA Division III philosophy.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Strong organizational skills.

• Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

• Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and customers, particularly in conflict situations.

• Ability to interact politely and resolve customer service issues.

• Ability to multitask, meet specific deadlines, and prioritize tasks and assignments.

• Skilled in basic math computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

• Knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office, Google Apps, Workday) and ability to learn upgrades and new programs as needed.

• Ability to exercise good judgment and decisions in an expeditious manner.

• Skilled at setting a good example for others.

• Skilled at organizing events, programs, projects and seeing them through to completion.

• Skilled at making presentations to large (>100) groups of people.

• Ability to concentrate and focus in a noisy environment.

The College may consider any equivalent amount of credentials, licensures, training, or experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of this job.

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily performed at competition/practice venues, classroom or office settings. Weekends, early mornings and evenings are generally required. This position is expected to travel. This position is expected to work on campus on a regular basis and is eligible to participate in a Hybrid Work and Flexible Schedules. Approval of Flexible Work Arrangements are at the discretion of the department supervisor to ensure that the needs of the department and college are met.
