Under the direction of the Head Men’s and Women’s Track & Field coach, this position assumes the role of Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach/Assistant Track and Field Coach within the Track & Field program and all duties associated with that role. Will plan, organize, direct and evaluate all phases of a highly competitive intercollegiate Cross Country program, while also serving as an assistant for the Track & Field program at the University of La Verne in accordance and compliance with the
NCAA
,
SCIAC
and the University of La Verne’s policies and regulations.
A minimum of 6 years of athletic department experience as either a student-athlete or athletic department employee
A minimum of 3 year’s demonstrated successful cross country coaching and recruiting experience at the college or university level .
Valid CA Drivers License.
Ability to organize and operate an effective cross country program while motivating and mentoring student-athletes. Includes (but not limited to) 3years of collegiate cross country or long distance track coaching experience, budget, team travel, inventory, equipment, uniforms, scheduling, fundraising, student-athlete academic progress, alumni relations, and rules compliance experience.
Ability to stay abreast of current and developing trends (video, voice, data, and computing technologies).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks and personnel simultaneously.
Demonstrated awareness and commitment to effectively establishing relationships and positive communications across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to race, gender, sexual preference/identity, physical limitations, class or religious perspectives.
Enthusiasm and the ability to thrive in an atmosphere of constant change and high pressure.
Ability to travel and recruit student athletes.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
Ability to proficiently operate a personal computer and associated software(Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
Ability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs, utilizing proper grammar and punctuation.
Master’s degree.

Duties
| Specific Duties |
Under an independent umbrella of specific long distance running ideals, lead the Cross County coaching staff and players by creating and developing a culture that demonstrates the tenants of the overall Track and Field program (including but not limited to work ethic, passion, time management, team-first mentality, cultural diversity and camaraderie). Successfully communicate the independent set of cross country ideals in collaboration with the overall track and field program culture – emphasis on distance events – in all aspects required of a successful collegiate program.

Responsible for all recruitment of perspective long distance student-athlete runners; including (but not limited to) on campus visits, digital and in-person correspondences, and of-campus recruiting activities. Annual recruitment goal of 3-5 male and 3-5 female student-athletes who enroll and participate in the sport of Cross Country at the University of La Verne.

| Specific Duties |
Develop daily in-season practice plans for each individual long distance runner, including the preparation and creation of team strategy in regards to meets and contests.

Year-long tracking of the academic success of the student athletes associated with the cross country student-athletes. Including, but not limited to, grade and classroom monitoring for at-risk students, communicate and inform the Head Track and Field Coach of any discrepancies or challenges the students encounter.
Hold all long distance student-athletes accountable to all Cross Country and Track and Field team and culture rules and regulations, as well as those of the NCAA, SCIAC, University through the established system of sanctions.
Develop and maintain an out-of-season training program, in collaboration with the Head Track and Field Coach, and the Strength and Conditioning staff.
Source vendors and purchase equipment specific to cross country needs and requirements.
Responsible for the development and maintenance of alumni and community relations. | | Percentage Of Time | 10 |

Responsible for the monitoring of and accountability for overall budget administration for the Cross Country program.
Responsible for fundraising as necessary to supplement the funding of the Cross Country program; assist with the fundraising associated with the overall Track and Field program. | | Percentage Of Time | 10 |

Responsible for compliance of NCAA, SCIAC, and University of La Verne rules and regulations.
Serve as an Academic Advisor for student-athletes on the team as an informed consumer of advising concepts and academic policies, includes supporting academic events like SOAR, etc.
