Job Description

As the fencing head coach, you will teach, coach, and train artist-athletes to advance their knowledge of the sport. You will communicate with students, parents, and physicians about the eligibility or ineligibility of students to participate in fencing. You will establish specific procedures for handling injuries/emergencies. You will schedule and lead efficient, effective, and well-organized practice sessions. Your responsibilities will include the completion of necessary paperwork, the successful recruitment of capable players compatible with the university, and the promotion of retention to enable artist-athletes to graduate in four years and pursue rewarding careers.

In this position, you will handle travel arrangements and schedule competitions against recognized and respected colleges and universities. You will create, implement, and administer methods of instruction, measurements, and exploration of the learning potential and achievement of artist-athletes. You will also maintain regular office hours, attend university events, and maintain a positive and enthusiastic approach toward duties and the university. Likewise, you will engage in successful community relations within the university to establish a favorable opinion of SCAD athletics among SCAD students. You will also establish a favorable opinion of the program at the city, state, and national levels.

The successful candidate will be stepping into a supportive and collaborative environment, where excellent communication skills, proven leadership ability, and a commitment to student development are highly valued. Understanding of guidelines, federal regulations, and other governing policies for intercollegiate athletics, as well as experience in fundraising and budget management, are also key attributes.
