BASIC FUNCTION
The head field hockey coach is responsible for the general oversight and leadership of all aspects of the field hockey program.

The coach will manage the daily operations of a NCAA Division III field hockey program under the guidelines established by Vermont State University, NCAA and the Little East Conference.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to, practice and game preparation, the supervision of the assistant coaching staff, recruitment and retention of qualified student-athletes, overseeing academic success and student-athlete welfare.

HEAD FIELD HOCKEY COACH

BASIC FUNCTION
The head field hockey coach is responsible for the general oversight and leadership of all aspects of the field hockey program.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The coach will manage the daily operations of a NCAA Division III field hockey program under the guidelines established by Vermont State University, NCAA and the Little East Conference.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to, practice and game preparation, the supervision of the assistant coaching staff, recruitment and retention of qualified student-athletes, overseeing academic success and student-athlete welfare.
Manage team travel including transportation, lodging and meals.
Actively engage in alumni relations and fundraising activities.
Provide support with administrative duties within the Athletics and Recreation Department based upon employee skill set and may change depending on the department’s needs.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervision is received from the Director of Athletics.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
General supervision over part-time assistant coaches, graduate assistants, student workers and student interns.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in sports administration, recreation, physical education, or other appropriate discipline with a master’s degree desirable, plus two to four years relevant experience in coaching, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Knowledge:
Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Ability to deal effectively with students, college personnel, as well as professional NCAA compliance network and others outside of the university.
Understanding of the educational goals and objectives of Vermont State University including attention to accessibility and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Understanding of the psychological and cultural characteristics of economically and educationally disadvantaged students, particularly in a rural setting.
Awareness of developmental, holistic, and proactive approaches to student success.
Skills:
Strong and varied technical skills and interest in recreational activities.
Broad base of knowledge and skills related to athletic facilities, management, coaching, recruiting and other relevant experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience with (or ability to learn) technologies such as SSE, Colleague, Self-Service, Slate, Microsoft products, and Perceptive Content.
Proven record of accountability and follow-through with the ability to meet deadlines.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to positively influence student skill development, such as communication skills, leadership skills, academic skills, technical skills, non-cognitive or ‘soft’ skills, and social skills.
Demonstrated ability to foster student development in the attainment of student success goals, such as academic purpose, sense of belonging/identity, agency, career readiness, civic readiness, access & equity.
Demonstrated positive attitude regarding Vermont State University and a desire to improve student outcomes, including attention to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Demonstrated ability to support a diverse community and promote diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals within the University and capacity to work as part of a team to collaborate and choose student success.
Ability to collaborate effectively with college personnel as well as external stakeholders in carrying out the various coordination, liaison, and other aspects of the job.
Ability to work weekends and evenings.
Location: Vermont State University Castleton campus, Castleton, VT.
Compensation: The budgeted compensation for this position is $52,000 - $58,000.
