Apply NowTruman State University seeks a Head Football Coach who fosters high standards of integrity, athletic excellence, and academic success and has strong strategic, management, relational, and communication skills. The next Head Coach must be forward-thinking, able to excel in the dynamic and evolving collegiate athletics landscape and work effectively with many different constituencies.
Since 2016, the Football Bulldogs have won the Great Lakes Valley Conference (
GLVC
) once, and the America’s Crossroads Bowl three times. The Football Bulldogs also succeed off the field, with an average
GPA
of 3.12.
The Position
The Head Football Coach reports directly to the Athletics Director and directs a staff of six Assistant Football Coaches. The Head Coach is expected to lead a strong Division II program that recruits, trains, and supports student-athletes to compete at the highest level possible while also prioritizing the health, welfare, and academic success of the student athletes. The Head Coach is responsible for adherence to the policies, rules, and regulations of the
NCAA
, the
GLVC
, and the University. The Head Coach serves as the public face of the program and works to promote campus and community engagement and support. Specifically, the Head Football Coach is responsible for:
· Creating and implementing a comprehensive strategy for elevating a successful football program, demonstrating excellence in recruiting, training, game preparation, and student-athlete support.
· Providing supervision and mentorship to assistant coaches, ensuring alignment with the program’s vision and goals.
· Identifying and recruiting talented student-athletes who can succeed academically, socially, and athletically; embody the university’s values; and contribute to a positive team culture.
· Establishing a positive and inclusive team culture that promotes academic achievement, personal growth, athletic excellence, and sportsmanship.
· Collaborating with athletic department staff and other university personnel to manage budgets, scheduling, and compliance with
NCAA
,
GLVC
, and University policies and regulations.
· Fostering relationships with alumni, donors, the community, and friends to enhance all modes of support for the program, including financial.

Located in Kirksville, Truman plays a vital role in the thriving regional center of northeast Missouri. The campus spreads across 180 acres and is recognized as a Tree Campus

School. The city enjoys a low crime rate, excellent schools, and a low cost of living. Within a short drive, a broad range of outdoor recreational opportunities is easily accessible. Kirksville is connected to Chicago (

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
Experience coaching football at the collegiate level or higher
Knowledge and understanding of
NCAA
rules and regulations, including regulations regarding recruiting and eligibility
Experience recruiting student-athletes with the ability to succeed on and off the field
Strong leadership and motivational skills with the ability to inspire and connect with student-athletes and assistant coaches
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
An advanced degree from an accredited college or university
A minimum of 7 years of coaching football at the collegiate level or higher
Experience as a football head coach or Unit coordinator
Strong recruitment connections in the Midwest
Evidence of the ability to form strong relationships with administration and other relevant units in the University
Evidence of external relations and fundraising experience
